Ownership verified by DX As a standalone MP3 player
Posted by inedible on 6/10/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Works as a standalone MP3 player
Works as a car cassette adapter
Plays mp3 files at any bitrate, fairly good sound quality
Neat fade-out effect when switching tracks
Resumes playback from last track played (when in standalone MP3 player mode, see discussion below, apparently this doesn't work for cassette mode)
Seems to have good battery life
Recurses directories just fine, no need to put things in special folders, it will find your MP3s no matter where you put them on the SD card.

Cons: For some reason when using this as a standalone MP3 player it will occasionally pause the song for no reason. It seems this happens if you shake the device or something, it usually happens when I try to put it in my pocket. It's becoming very, very annoying for this reason.
No shuffle mode.
Volume doesn't go high enough.
Copying to SD via USB is very very slow, I recommend a different card reader to copy your MP3s.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a specific application, for my on-hold music player for my store, which only accepts cassettes... The device wants to rewind the tape before it'll start playing, and unfortunately these adapters will never work for my application since there's no "hard stop" in the gears when rewinding.
The equalizer presets are useless.

Bottomline: I haven't tried it in cassette mode, I've only been using it as a standalone MP3 player... For that purpose it works fairly well, though the lack of a shuffle button really breaks it for me. If anyone knows of a way for this to shuffle MP3s I'd be incredibly happy if you could post in the comments section below.

Ownership verified by DX Good Product for old car without MP3 player

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Good for old car that without MP3 player, can also use for the old casettle player at home

Cons: battery can't operate properly in winter at our place [ Toronto, Canada ] because the outdoor temp is alwasy -5C ~ -30C in winter, battery can not stand in this temp.

Other Thoughts: external USB power connector will be the best for using under extreme temp country

Bottomline: Great price performance, I gave up to spend hundred + to install additional CD player with USB plug at front. Good product for someone who always listen new song in MP3 format.

Ownership verified by DX Nice idea but....

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: A nice alternative for people who have cassette players in their cars
Straightforward to use - just drag and drop mp3s onto the card
Sound's not bad at all. To my ears, it sounded better than my cassettes

Cons: Doesn't always work as intended. Sometimes songs stop half-way through and start again for no particular reason.
Hard to control.
Doesn't have a display.
Manual says you can move from one track to another using the cassette player's controls. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Other Thoughts: Player is cheap and cheerful. Build quality seems to be OK. Just a pity that the operation is glitchy. I originally had a 2gb card in it but it didn't handle that too well. 1gb card seems to be less eccentric

Bottomline: If you have a cassette player, this is cheap and cheerful and worth a try.

Ownership verified by DX For this price, a mp3 player which worths

Pros: Build quality is moderate. But its plastic casing and buttons are much better than photographs here. It has a SD card slot. I installed 1gb kingston i worked with /MP3 folder in root directory.
It works as SD card reader. It has several EQ modes and it sounds not bad with good quality headphones.

Cons: It has built in battery, biggest problem will be draining batteries. So it might be produced with a permanently installed power cable for cassette palyers in car.

Other Thoughts: very god product for its price.

Bottomline: if you have cassette player in your car and you cant change, you cant afford a cd player.go buy this. it will sound like at least casette adaptors which are directly plugged to mp3 players. plus this has equalizer modes to adjust tone.
adjust volume to mid to low and turn up your cassette player voluem for better sound.
