Ownership verified by DX Perfect card for casual, beginner, or ANYBODY!
Posted by Lupin003 on 7/18/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Great price, easy to find firmware/software, easy to set up firmware/software, easy to navigate menu, game icons, skinnable background, easy to use features like soft reset, passme, backlight adjust (on DSL), download gameplay to other DS with TTDS, retains online gameplay functionality, SDHC compatible, I could go on ...

Cons: Um ... it doesn't magically appear in your mailbox the moment that you place the order. That's the ONLY con I can think of!!!

Other Thoughts: It's rather curious that so many users in the "homebrew" community speak out against DS Flash cards that aren't the "R4" ... but honestly, for the price, availablity, and ease of use ... I see NO reason to go through the hastle of getting an R4 when this is comparable if not superior on many fronts.

Bottomline: I regret not taking the plunge and ordering 5 when I first placed the order ... don't be hesitant, buy multiples you'll desparately want to give them to friends and family once you see how fun and easy they are to use!

Ownership verified by DX Great value for money, games galore now!

Pros: Nice gui,
Fits snugly into ds.
Build quality is good.
Unlike previous posters, mine has the spring loaded sd card slot.
No problems with freezing or locking of card.
Has the protective plastic'teeth'over the contacts which prevents damage.
Manufacturer has regular updates of firmware. Has been updated twice since I ordered the card. Good support!
Nice price, especially with free shipping.

Cons: Card reader is a bit dodgy.I used the Sandisk micro- full sd adapter that came with my card and a reader I had lying around.
Spring loaded sd slot does feel a bit flimsy, but that could be because the micro sd card is so small.(and my fingers are so big!)
I can't master soft reset yet! :)

Other Thoughts: I ordered this and then spent the next 2 weeks worrying whether I had done the right thing after reading of peoples problems on different forums and reviews.
I need not have worried. It arrived within 10 days and worked perfectly. My only suggestion is to put your roms into a seperate folder as opposed to on the root of the card, as locking and freezing of the menu seems to be a common complaint. This always seems to be the remedy. I did this from the start and it runs sweet. (I actually got this for my 9 year old son)
I am so pleased with this card I have ordered another of these for my daughter.

Bottomline: Compared with all the other cards on the market I believe this is a very competitive unit.Believe me I have read reviews and forums on nearly all of them.
This card is also sigificantly cheaper on DX than I can get it from Aust. suppliers.
I am looking forward to the arrival of my next card and hope to be similarly impressed.
Good job DealExtreme!

Ownership verified by DX Great deal for homebrew and games

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: It's a greatdeal if you want to do homebrew or gaming (although I of course wouldn't pirate anything!). It is great to be able to put all of the games you own onto one memory card, so you don't have to swap in and out cartridges!

Cons: - Build quality could be better - EG Spring mechanism feels like it will break if you take the memory card in and out alot. Also the DSTT doesn't always pop in and out of the Nintendo DS like it should, you have to use a lot of force sometimes.
- A CD or at least more instructions would be nice instead of having to google search and download everything.
- The built in OS is very slow if you have a lot of stuff on it, but you can put YS Menu on there, which is a LOT better.

Other Thoughts: If you plan on putting more than a few items on the card, I would definitely suggest downloading and installing YS Menu onto it, it is lightyears nicer than the DSTT's built in OS.

Bottomline: If you have a DS, you need one of these.

Ownership verified by DX Cheap and easy (in a good way)

Ease of Use: starstarstarstar

Pros: - Works with pretty much all NDS files.
- MicroSD slot is NO LONGER spring-loaded (people worried the mechanism might break... well, worry no more).
- Fast game loading.
- Perfect emulation.
- Built-in support for Action Replay cheats (also user customizable).
- SDHC support (though it supports full emulation speed for ALL speeds of microSD).
- Save data is stored as raw .SAV files that are compatible with other ROM carts (so you can take your save data with you when you switch cards).
- Skinnable! (You can find them if you search)

Cons: - Must manually put latest firmware on the card (download from the official NDSTT site and extract to the card... easy).
- Menu is not that great... no alphabetization, laggy scrolling (only if you use the touch screen), .
- No built-in support for multimedia (like Moonshell), though multimedia homebrews run normally as regular game files.
- Card seems very cheaply-made, but it won't be falling apart (not all the lines are perfectly straight, but no one's really looking at it).
- Included card reader is frustrating to use (the card keeps getting stuck in it for me), though it DOES work.

Other Thoughts: This is a great way of condensing your game collection into one cartridge and reducing the risk of losing your games.

Bottomline: If you just want to play games and don't need the features of the more expensive cartridges, this is perfect.
