Pros: The specs were promising. An hard drive enclosure that can hold both IDE and SATA drives is a very good idea. The implementation however is bad.

Cons: The product didn't work from the beginning.
After installation and turning the thing on, the hard drive wouldn't even start to spin.
After some investigation I found out that the power supply output was 7V and 7V instead 5V and 12V as it should and as described on the power supply itself. I opened the power supply box and examined the PCB. I soon found out that there was a short circuit inside the power supply from bad soldering!. I fixed the short circuit and tried it again. This time the output voltage was correct and the HD started, but the voltage fluctuated badly causing the HD to spin irregularly and sound like it's going to break. The computer could not mount the HD volume either. I checked the HD elsewhere and the HD was OK. At this point I decided to stop trying.

Other Thoughts: It seems like the production is of a very poor quality and it didn't go through QA at the factory, otherwise I can't see how it left the factory in this state.

Bottomline: A good product on paper, but suffers from poor production and QA. I won't risk my HD again with it.

Ownership verified by DX Great for you good old IDE/PATA drives

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: works with IDE(PATA) and SATA drives
Uses a jMicron JM20337 PATA+SATA to USB 2.0 chip
Nice Design
Can be booted from BIOS
Vista SP1 Filecopy tests using TeraCopy
ATI SB600 = 22-26 MB/s
ATI SB700 = 24-28 MB/s
HD Tune: ATI SB600 | WDC WD2500JB-00GVC0 Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 19.7 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 20.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 20.4 MB/sec
Access Time : 21.1 ms
Burst Rate : 14.8 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 6.9%

Cons: does not no work for my Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA or Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA
Worked with a WDC 250GB PATA Drive just fine

Other Thoughts: chipset does not support big drives to bad
harddrive little lose in the case

Bottomline: decent enclosure
if you got any IDE(PATA) laying around

Ownership verified by DX No Noise Isolation

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: Ok
It takes IDE and SATA drives which is great
The case feels solid which is great
HDD Installation is quite easy

Cons: However
it offers no noise isolation, so it buzzes when on the stand or not, I have to use a piece of felt to dampen the noise, and its still makes an audible buzz
The Enclosure has been replaceed with a cooler master one, which is much quieter
The AC adapter cable to the drive is quite short
The Provided usb cable is also quite short
The AC adapter emits a high pitched noise (adapter failing maybe)

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: If you need a quick cheap IDE to sata enclosure sure
using it long term will cause insanity

Ownership verified by DX Makes an Internal, External.

Pros: Holds almost any internal HD, SATA or IDE. Connects to computer via USB 2.0 and is fairly easy to use.

Cons: Not mush room inside for the short IDE ribbon, have to fold it up to fit the small interior.
Olny real grip I have is both power and connection cables are on teh same side as the power switch and activity LED. Everything on one side make it a little busy and limits how/where you can place it and still be able to watch the LED. The power cord that came with it was for European 240V plugs, had to pirate a cable off and old printer.

Other Thoughts: It's a basic, low level HD enclosure. Everything you need to have and not much else.

Bottomline: If you have a power cord laying around and need to hook up a HD, this will get you where you need to be. For a little investment you can hook up an extra HD to your USB port.
