Pros: I installed this adapter together with a Kingmax 4GB CompactFlash card inside my old iPod (4th Gen). The iPod was recognized without any problem and was successfuly restored using iTunes.
Cons: Master/Slave jumper may be too high for slim iPods (with original hard drive of 30GB or less). It fits all right within my 40GB iPod, which is thicker.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: Perfect for reviving an old iPod 4G with a crashed hard drive, at a very low cost. This one will stay connected to my audio setup and serve as an alarm clock ;-)
Pros: Harddisk died on me for my Ipod 4G. Had to find a solution and I came across this in DealeXtreme and thought it'd be useful.Ordered one to try and it resurrected my Ipod 4G! It's so good and easy to use that I ordered another one for standby.Fits perfectly well in the ipod with little technical adjustments needed.
Cons: The jumper for this card has to be tweaked a little for it to fit perfectly in the Ipod 4G. It's a little too long and needed to be bent. Shouldn't be too hard with a plier in hand.It can be used without any tweaking but you'll see a dark spot on the LCD as the jumper is pressing against it.
Other Thoughts: Highly recommended to change your harddisk ipod to a flash ipod. Can now be used for rigorous exercises and the capacity for the ipod can be chosen by yourself.Example, start off with 2GB. when the needs exceeds, then purchase a bigger capacity to replace.
Bottomline: Fun and easy to use. Thanks to DX for bringing my Ipod back to life. :)
Pros: Not much to say - did exactly what I needed it to do.
Cons: - The jumper is too high. For my mod, I needed to bend the jumper close to 90 degrees to reduce the height of the adapter. - Will not work with smaller CF cards (I tried a SimpleTech 256MB card, for example, which failed). This is not the fault of the adapter - be aware that you need a relatively new CF card for this to work.
Other Thoughts: I used this for a CF mod on a Rockboxed Gigabeat F20, using a Lexar 133x 8GB CF card. Used a recent bootloader and build, and it works like a charm. No more lag, significantly lighter, and I believe the battery life is improved.
Bottomline: A very simple product, and did what it advertised.
Pros: - Build quality is excellent for such a small adapter.- Very useful and work exactly as advertised.
Cons: - None that I can think of right now, maybe the master/ slave jumper on the adapter could be nicer if it is 90 degree bent style instead of the straight one.
Other Thoughts: - Be gentle with this small adapter.
Bottomline: I ordered this "CF to Toshiba 1.8-inch IDE Hard Drive Converter" to replace the hard disk of my "Rockboxed" iRiver HP-120 with a Compact Flash card. It works like a champ, no more moving parts in my iRiver!!!
