Pros: Easy to install- just plug it in and restore through iTunes. Very cheap and made my iPod work again after a few years of sitting around collecting dust.
Cons: As previous reviews have stated, there is a jumper pin that needs to be bent back with pliers so the screen displays normally. Otherwise, a little black pressure spot will show up when the iPod is closed up.
Other Thoughts: I wish the iPod case was easier to open. I damaged it a bit with my screwdriver.
Bottomline: I recommend this to anyone who has an iPod sitting around and is interested in fixing things.
Pros: This product works as advertised to replace a 1.8" Toshiba drive with a compact flash card. Ive got it in a resurrected 4th generation iPod. The compactflash is more durable than a spinning hard drive, and this combination is much less expensive than trying to buy a new hard drive
Cons: One hiccup during installation: this drive converter had more holes in it that the pins coming out of the ipod. It took me a few times to get it in the right spot, but then I realized there is a "Pin 1" and an arrow printed on the board showing you where to start. (you can see it in the photo). Once I aligned the first pin in there, I plugged in the iPod and got the "unhappy folder" display. Success!
Other Thoughts: The "unhappy folder" went away once I plugged it into the computer for a first sync.
Bottomline: It works. Good price, easy to do, and totally worth the price.
Pros: Does exactly what its supposed to do
Cons: If you're using this to fix an iPod the jumper is too high to fit. I had to bend the pins together and solder them, no big deal.Soldering quality on the pin headers look a little sketchy but it probably was fine, I reflowed them just to be sure.
Other Thoughts: I looked at some on ebay and they were higher price, then I realized "I should check Dealextreme" sure enough I found them here and they were half the price.
Bottomline: I've fixed 2 3rd Gen iPods with these adapters, friends just give them to me because they're junk. Pop the hard drive out and replace it with one of these and a CF card (make sure you get the connection from ipod to adapter correct) presto you have a decent ipod that cost you <$20
Pros: I installed this adapter together with a Kingmax 4GB CompactFlash card inside my old iPod (4th Gen). The iPod was recognized without any problem and was successfuly restored using iTunes.
Cons: Master/Slave jumper may be too high for slim iPods (with original hard drive of 30GB or less). It fits all right within my 40GB iPod, which is thicker.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: Perfect for reviving an old iPod 4G with a crashed hard drive, at a very low cost. This one will stay connected to my audio setup and serve as an alarm clock ;-)
