Pros: Attractive designSmall sizeVery easy to use
Cons: Feels cheapCompletely inaccurate
Other Thoughts: It is hard to knock the price and design of this detector, but the sad fact is that it is simply too unreliable to do you much good. In my home with no less than 3 WiFi Access Points, it would often claim that no signal was present.
Bottomline: It felt like every second or third scan would come up negative, so if you scan a few times you can get an idea of the real situation by doing a mental average of the results. But of course it shouldn't have to be that way, you should get a reliable result every time; and you simply won't get that with this detector.
Pros: - Very usefull and handy.- Great gadget for geeks.- Cheap.- You do not have to power up your notebook to find if there is any available wireless network nearby.
Cons: - Quality is moderate.- Batteries in my detector were COMPLETELY discharged (about 0.2 V each, should be 3V) so order spare batteries as well.- If you want to replace the batteries you have to take it completely apart, so make sure you ordered appropriate small screwdriver too ;)- Signal meter is inaccurate.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: Great gadget but quality is moderate. Anyway what could you expect for that price? If you need it than buy, but order spare batteries (two CR2032) just in case.
Pros: Finally a product that detects specifically WiFi signals 802.11b and 802.11b/gSmall size makes it easy to carry with you. The LED's are bright enough to be seen in sunlight.
Cons: I have ordered 2 pieces (order #: 03103845Date: 3/10/2008 and order #: 0227SQ3ZDate: 2/27/2008); both were dead on arrival. The soldering of the components to the board is of very poor quality. There were several bad joints, on one board there were 2 tiny SMD capacitors shiftet out of place and had to be removed and soldered correctly again. The batteries of one unit were down to 2V, should have been 3V.
Other Thoughts: After repairing (resoldering) the unit, detection of WiFi networks is o.k., but not strong enough. The unit reports via red LED that no network is available although my MacBookPro Airport is able to connect. Moving 10m closer to the acesspoint gives proper detection of the network and all 3 green LEDs are lit.
Bottomline: If the quality issues can be solved this would be a nice product. At the moment you can give it a try if you are able to solder SMD components.
