Compared to other electric R/C helicopters with tail motors, this Walkera DragonFly is among the easiest to learn and control. Trimming is a piece of cake on this one. If you're a beginner, however, I'd recommend the co-axial Honey Bees as I personally find them easier to learn.
A higher built quality would have been given if its landing skid were made stronger (an inherit problem of Walkera's helicopters as brought up by others). Nonetheless, it's got good controls and cheap parts (uploading soon) so you probably won't break it at all or you can easily and cheaply replace them.
Lastly, get the lithium polymer battery pack from below. The included NiMH battery is way too heavy for serious fun.
Pros: - Strong built- Good quality- Good parts- BIG
Cons: - It can break if you are unskilled
Other Thoughts: I have bought several choppers from this website, and this one has been the biggest one of them all. The built and quality are high, if you think you can control any chopper, then you should try this one, check the video if you are not sure, but are able to spend the money, you should buy this chopper.
Bottomline: It has good agility, speed, built, fun! If you looking for a big chopper and are sure you can master them, this is your choice.
Pros: Ordered (free shipping) and payed with paypal on 5dec2007. 8dec2007 Hongkong item posted. 8dec2007 Hongkong In transit. 10dec2007 Honkong Processed for departure. 11dec2007 Hongkong The item left Hong Kong for its destination on 11-Dec-2007. 17dec2007 Netherlands Arrived and is being processed. 17dec2007 Netherlands In transit. The helicopter arrived on the 18dec2007. I did not have to pay Dutch taxes. Well done Dealextreme, Hongkong-post and selectvracht.
Cons: Fragile build quality, but all parts easy to dismount and replace.
Other Thoughts: Please put a list off replacement - spareparts on your site.
Bottomline: Fast shipping.
Pros: Identical to Venom brand copter that cost AUD 290 18 months ago. "Computer" charger included
Cons: Control set up for mode one Minor damage on delivery (simple fix) Basic instructions
Other Thoughts: Training skids would be useful for begginers
Bottomline: Very good value for money. A true 4 axis chopper.
How to use?(This information is very important and is detailed in the manual but just in case you don't want to read them, we've reworded them here.)
1. Prior to initial use, fully charge the included lithium battery. The status light LED turns green on the charger adaptor when charging is done (this should take less than 1 hour). Don't connect the battery to the helicopter yet.
2. Next, make sure your remote control is switched to OFF and install 8 AA batteries into the remote control.
3. Important: before you turn on the remote control, pull both the throttle stick and the trim switch besides the stick all the way down. If you don't do this your helicopter will begin flying the second you connect its power - this must be avoided.
4. Now, turn on the remote control and check if the battery indicator light is at least yellow. If the light is green then it'd be even better.
5. Finally, install the the lithium battery into the helicopter by sliding it the battery holders. If you have done it correctly the battery should be held firmly in place. If all looks good, connect power to the helicopter. This is done by hooking up the red male plug on the battery to the red female plug on the helicopter.
After you connect power, the servos (black control units under the blades) will re-adjust themselves and make some noise in the process. This takes less than a second and is perfectly normal. Don't worry the blades won't begin turning (provided that you've followed step 3).
At this point, all is set. Follow the detailed flying tutorials in the user's manual that's easy enough even for beginners and fortunately it is fully printed in English.
