Pros: - Rather nice looking- 3 Channels- You get creative in repairing the shopper- Flies!- Enough climbing power to take additional weight due to repairs ;-)
Cons: - Slow forward flight- A lot of easily breakable parts- Doesn't charge fully with NiMH batteriesList of repairs so far:* One side of rotor tore off -> Glued together and strengthed all rotor blades with clear tape. * Landing gear broke at one joint. Fixed with Expoxy and reinforced landing gear with thin layer of epoxy* The two halfs of the "Cockpit" started coming apart, fixed with model plastic glue* Taps on upper rotor that attach to the stabelizer broke: Inserted hot needle in the remaining plastic, cut of to fitting length, added a little expoxy "ball" to the end.* Stabelizer bearing became loose, bolts were lost. Repaired with short pieces cut from needles instead of original bolts glued in.* Stabelizer gearing broke. Glueing back with 2-component plastic glue (primer+glue) proofed to not take the load, melting back didn't work. Reengineered a replacement part out of epoxy.* Bearing of upper rotor broke. Unscrewed the part and reglued the little broken plastic piece. Also added AC Adapter plug to charger/remote control to charge without the need for Akalines
Other Thoughts: First thing when getting that helicopter: REINFORCE THE BLADES WITH CLEAR TAPE!Preferable a broad variety so you can wrap it around the front edge.Blades will chip when hitting hard objects and may TEAR (not break) if that occurs repeatedlyThe blades are made from a soft, bendable plastic. Therefore they wont break, but still they can tear off... I know! Not sure if that's to all the damage it has endured but it doesn't fly straight but in a pendulum like motion...Couldn't find the resistor controlling the read motor's speed to increase forward/backward motion.
Bottomline: It's fun to fly as long as you are careful not to crash to often. If you always wanted to try a micro heli but have been turned of by the price this one might fit the bill to get an idea of what it's like to fly.Remeber: TAPE THE ROTOR BLADES. At least the front edge to avoid chipping.Let's see if my franken-heli still takes off....
