Pros: Probably the brightest LED unit as of this writing. Will work with a 3v - even a cr2032 coin battery (be careful with anything higher without a regulator) - small and bright.Acrylic lens disperses almost 180 degrees so is good as a flood light (sans reflector)
Cons: For ultimate brightness requires heat sink (beyond the base) and current limiting.Soldering can be difficult because of the heat sinking.
Other Thoughts: The integrated unit (14413) might be easier but requires a higher minimum voltage.
Bottomline: Very good for an isolated LED for high output.
Pros: Got one to replace the one in my 5 mode MTE sku.16092 . Sure did increase the output of the flashlight . From 2.2/2.4A to 2.8/3A just from swapping out the LED .
Cons: Bin Please ...No clue to as to what I got ....
Other Thoughts: This is a great LED and it sure did boost my MTE flashlight , Im now getting 2.8A to over 3A at the tail , which means Im just about driving this LED at max Amps with a single 18650 .
Bottomline: I dont have a clue to the Bin , sure would be nice to know just what the heck is going on , esp with fv [ forward voltage ] ..I think some one else said C***I bin or lower actual fv than posted . Which might explain the good performance , ...Would be nice to know though ....DX I just put in an order for a second one . Sure do hope its the same Bin ....
Pros: Bright isn't an appropriate word. Its amazing!!! When comparing to other 1W, 0.35A LED, feeding SSC P7 with exactly the same current(0.35A) It’s MUCH brighter! When feeding in 50mA its brighter as three 5mm high brightness LEDs.
Cons: Almost no cons at all. Maybe the price should be cheaper. And on DealExtreme there is no appropriate driver to handle this LED. (except 10 pieces of 1400mA drivers, but who needs 10 pieces?!?)
Other Thoughts: It needs a big heat sink.Bright!!! But dangerous for your eyes. Should be a warning.
Bottomline: It makes an amazing LED torch.
Pros: Did I say it's BRIGHT ??? Mine arrived attached to a thick, generous heatsink.I also purchased a SKU 15969 Cree C6 flashlight DIY kit. I did some machining to this Cree host, and got this emitter, 2 x DX 1400mA flashlight regulators, and 1 x 18650 battery installed. I now have an awesome small C6 size flashlight with this SSC P7 emitter in it! It does get warm in use, but stays working.
Cons: No real issues with this product at all. Works great.
Other Thoughts: This is a high powered emitter, so it needs good heatsinking in any DIY build.
Bottomline: If you want lots of bright white light, buy one of these and heatsink it well. This is a great emitter and a great DX product! Now I have an awesome flashlight.
