Ownership verified by DX Incredibly small player with a small price!
Posted by iforget on 11/14/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: - SMALL
- Can be easily hidden, taped to a hat, hung as a necklace, etc.
- Actual 1GB capacity confirmed [after formatting a bit less as always]
- Bit slow read/write but could have just been my computer at the time of the test
- Reads files in the order you copied them, I believe
- After unplugging headphones and waiting a while, plugging them in again resumes your last heard track from the beginning, it doesn't restart to the first song you have
- Nice giftbox with funny Engrish instructions - but you get the jist of it
- Copy MP3s using Windows Explorer or similar - no dumb bloated programs like iTunes or Zune software!

Cons: - Uses a 2.5mm headphone jack, requiring use of an adapter that's 1/2 as big as the player or using the included plastic short corded headphones
- Plays a weird noise after skipping a track
- No shuffle!
- Poor English instructions but you don't need to read them

Other Thoughts: - H2testw v1.4
*Writing speed: 1.57 MByte/s
*Reading speed: 6.59 MByte/s
[POSSIBLY NOT 100% ACCURATE! But you'll get a minimum of the above almost guaranteed]
- Plug in headphones to turn on
- Just two buttons
Good or bad, you decide!
- Don't expect any really serious features
- Plug in headphones to turn on. Hold next to increase volume, previous to decrease. Tap next to go to the next track, tap previous to go to the previous track. Easy as pie.

Bottomline: - Want an iPod Shuffle without the quality, battery life, shuffle-ability, and high expense? Buy this!

Ownership verified by DX Fun toy, not a serious player

Pros: Very easy to load files, just drag and drop like you are using a regular memory stick.
Simple interface: plug phones in to turn the unit on. Track skip buttons double as volume controls, easy to use. There is no seek function and no display. A single LED shows power/connection status.

Cons: The device is so small that it does not always stay in place in the usb socket.
In some computers I must push on it with a finger the whole time so that the contacts will stay in place long enough for the copy to finish.
The headphone connector is 2.5mm (like a cell phone headset jack) and although a set of stereo earphones is included (didn't try them) you will need an adapter to use this with your other equipment. I use one I got hear at dealextreme, search for 2.5mm to 3.5mm. (3.5mm is the "normal" headset plug like one your walkman/ipod etc.)

Other Thoughts: I have not evaluated the life of the integrated rechargeable battery.
I plan to use this plugged into a USB power socket, connected to a pair of cheap computer speakers, as a source of tunes in the baby's room upstairs. I think it will be good for that purpose, I will just leave it playing and turn the speakers on and off.

Bottomline: Limited capabilities, but does what it says!

Ownership verified by DX Smallest mp3 player on DX (maybe)

Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar

Pros: it's really small. Good for file storage too. And it recharges via standard USB port.

Cons: 2.5 mm earphone. Not common nor easy to find if you want a replacement or prefer to buy an in-ear one. The gift box is really large and useless. Ok, maybe all 'gift boxes' are useless, so buy this one only if you need for a special occasion. Too much expensive for what it offers.

Other Thoughts: It's small, really small. Maybe even too small. One led and just two button. To power on you have to plug the earphones. So i fear it will break soon because of too much plugging/unplugging.

Bottomline: too simple, too small, can't skip album, if you want to turn it off you need to unplug a small earphones. So buy it only if you're looking for some shuffle mp3 player, because all you have is just 2 button (volume up/down or, if kept pressed next/previous song).
