Ownership verified by DX Cheap and Good
Posted by GavinTing on 8/29/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: -Definitely one of the cheapest flash triggers on the market, muich cheaper than pocket wizards.
-No misfires
-Long Range! About 20m and it works (needs to be outside, straight line of sight)
-Build quality is quite good, but the battery door looks quite loose

Cons: -Lacks good instructions. I had a hard time connecting it the first time as I was ensure how hard to push. After awhile, I realised you have to snap it into place quite tightly (hold it tight and screw)
-Requires line of sight, so you can't do backlighting

Other Thoughts: My first purchase from DX and definitely very satsified

Bottomline: Cheap and good. If you can't afford a pocketwizard (those are 200+ USD), then get this!

Ownership verified by DX Works, no problems yet.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Cheaper than your average Pocket Wizard
Does what it's supposed to do
Can be mounted on a tripod as opposed to a light stand (could be a con, depending on your gear)

Cons: Receiver LOOKS like it's going to crack under the weight, yet so far so good
Receiver will heighten your flash in about 10-15cm, which could be a problem when working with umbrellas. Why the hell isn't it aligned horizontally?

Other Thoughts: Battery compartment on the transmitter is well hidden! you need to remove the "QA" sticker on the underside to reveal the screw.
Took me a long time to figure out, as opposed to the receiver which is marked "open" where needed.
No standalone receivers yet.

Bottomline: Does its job, dirt cheap, enables slave flashing to anyone who needs it.

Pros: Cheap
Light
Receivers use AA's not hard to find
Reliable (haven't had a misfire yet, when I do it's always due to my flash batteries getting low and not recycling quick enough)

Cons: Build quality is a little cheap but haven't actually had an issue yet, just feels lightweight and you wonder if you should mount your flash on it but it does hold.
No PC Socket, although newer ones might have it (a friend ordered the same ones off ebay and his had them).
Only half of the dip switches worked on my first two sets, its ok though I don't need multiple configurations and haven't ran into anyone else using them that was interfering with mine.

Other Thoughts: Not everyone has the money to drop on the "big name" wireless triggers. I took a chance on them and couldn't be happier, so much so that a week later I ordered another 2 sets to give me 4 total.
Range is fine for all the stuff I do, you can also mod the transmitter to get more range quite easily. If you need over 200 or 300 ft then these may not be the right choice.
As for reliability I haven't had any issues, I've got 4 sets so I'm comfortable using them on pro jobs, if one set brakes I've got spares. At the price just buy a backup set.

Bottomline: For the price you can't beat them. A cheap and easy way to get into the world of off-camera lighting. Buy these first and put the other money towards cameras or lenses, then buy the "big guys" later if you really need them.

Ownership verified by DX Cheap Way to trigger your HotShoe-Flashes!

Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: star
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: I bought first one and I liked it so much that i bought one more. I bought one more in case the other one broke but none of them have since i bought them a year ago. So they work like a charm:)

Cons: -Build quality is not very good. It holds my flashes but it bends down after a while, because the lower part won't hold properly. My solution to that was to stick a piece of hardplatic and glue it all together so now it holds like it should.
-Only a PC sync port on trigger but not on Receiver, which makes the flashes shoot slightly above the middle of the umbrellas.

Other Thoughts: If you got more flashes you can just buy Seagull Remote Slave Triggers here on DX for the rest.
I use triggers with these umbrellas: sku.5123 & sku.14409.

Bottomline: Buy at least 2 which will give you more possibilities.
I use this product with Sigma EF-500 DG Super and Nikon SB24/28 flashes and a Canon 350D(rebel) camera.
