Still remember the MTE 6W mini light? The one that has aluminum reflector cups? This is from the same reputable company and yes it features the latest star in the LED world - Seoul Semiconductors' Z-Power LED (more on http://www.zled.com/). This light features the same good MTE logo'd reflectors and water tight o-rings.
.
Performance (runtime / temperature) test:
.
As shown on the flashlight gives good feedback as to when you should recharge the batteries. In the meantime I'm waiting for the LIR's to recharge to retest and reconfirm this. Runtime is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes before light reaches 50% (the change is very sharp).
.
Notes for Modders:
.
One of the posters at CPF (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=154091) found that by replacing this resistor with a 0.9 Ohm, and switching the two CR123 batteries out for a 17670 (one cell, same size as two CR123) resulted in same brightness with around double the runtime.
.
(thanks mgordon33 for the note)

Ownership verified by DX Good flashlight, but can be bettered....
Posted by Nico1970 on 3/11/2008
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Feels solid and has nicely turned screw-in bezel and tail. Bright, but not THAT bright. Good light with decent throw and wide spread. Slight blue tinge to light.

Cons: Not as well-made as a Romisen. Internal finishes are a bit disappointing given the excellent exterior. Not a pocket EDC and some pronounced battery rattle from oversized barrel. O-rings not lubricated and no lanyard or holster provided. Some minor imperfections in the reflector.

Other Thoughts: Akthough it's quite bright it's definitely not as bright as RC-F4 GITD (also 2x CR123). MTE's quality control not great if this is the standard of product that leaves the factory.

Bottomline: Overall this is a good, but not excellent, flashlight. For the price I would expect the quality to be a bit better and also a lanyard and holster to be provided.

Ownership verified by DX Another great light from DX

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Build quality is great.
Bright.
Nice throw.
Enough spill to light a room.
Clicky works well.
Great runtime.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I like the two modes. The low mode is low enough to save battery life, and still light up what's in front of you. Perfect light for clearing a room.

Bottomline: I have mounted this on my Shotgun, along with a "JG4 Red Laser Sku#2602". Great for home defense.

Ownership verified by DX Very good

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Very well built and efficient.

Cons: the low mode is a little bit too strong, but it's not a real problem.

Other Thoughts: I had a 10W K2 flashlight (sku 852) which was really good. It has exactly the same body, but the switch is better on the MTE: on the K2, sometimes it was blocked. On the MTE, it is perfect.

Bottomline: very good choice

Ownership verified by DX Well-made, bright

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Build quality is excellent, unlike some other flashlights from here -- it's been dropped a lot of times, got wet (though not submerged), generally beat around, and it still works perfectly.

Light is _very_ bright and a nice even throw.

Cons: Uses 123 batteries, not AA/etc, but rechargeables work fine.

Bottomline: Great flashlight -- not quite pocketsized, but for a lot of light in a small package for DIY/etc, it's ideal.

For those who wants to mount this flashlight to guns, the Ultrafire 501D's remote pressure switch tail cap works with this light. The cap is slightly shorter than the MTE's original cap so this MTE torch will not be waterproof when using this remote switch. The switch can be custom ordered for $8.00 shipped (or $6.00 shipped with an existing order).
