We learned our lessons from the DX Cree light and despite of many fellows asking for this we have intentionally delayed the availability of this custom made product to ensure production quality matches prototypes and test samples. Now here it is, the cool looking and energy saving LED light bulb.
.
These are pretty bright, espeically the 48 LED+ versions. All custom built with 18,000MCD emitters. This replaces just any of the regular bulbs and they start working right away. No special adaptor, convertor, wiring or circuitry is required to use them -- just twist them on.
.
In addition, you may know that we have previously carried LED bulbs but were withdrawn due to reliability issues. That's about a year ago now. And between that time we have been working on improving this brilliant idea by getting directly involved in the design and production process. All DX bulbs are shipped pre-tested to ensure reliability and that all emitters are working properly. These are really bright so give them a try!

Pros: Very bright, light comparable to a 40W incandescent bulb, but only uses +-3W, so it saves money, lots of money... Good to study or cabinets, very good for piano playing, lights well the sheetmusic. Lights up instantaneously. Produces less heat than any other bulb.

Cons: you can't use it to light a room, its not that strong, you would need 4 or more to light a 10m2 room.
It gets a bit hot, don't know why, probably because leds aren't 100% efficient(as everything).
The box is all blank, no instructions or specifications

Other Thoughts: All leds light the same. None of them is burned.

Bottomline: nothing to add, just buy it, replace your old fashioned incandescent bulbs for this stylish leds, leds are the future, you can have the same ammount of light spending 10 times less energy/money.

Ownership verified by DX Inexpensive LED ligth bulb but doesn't last long

Pros: Power saving. Very nice white light instead of yellowish regular bulb.
Does not produce much heat compare to regular bulb.
A lot brighter than 24 LED.

Cons: Does not last very long. 1 out of 5 were burn out within 3 month with use of 1~2 hours daily.
Still not even close to the brightness of a regular 60W bulb.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't LED bulb suppose to last way longer than regular bulb? How come they burn out so quickly?

Bottomline: I ordered some 24LED bulbs from Deal Extreme before. It doesn't last over a month. This is slightly better for around 3 month before the first one burn out. It's much brighter than 24LED but still doesn't last very long.

Ownership verified by DX Not as bright as expected

Pros: Cool novelty lighting.

Cons: The LEDs have a wide ~2.98sr solid angle. The bulb isn't very bright, so when the same amount of light is dispersed over a larger solid angle, the light seems even dimmer

Other Thoughts: So far, there haven't been any problems.
It is NOT dimmable, contrary to what many believe. To dim an LED, one shorten the current pulses, but the driver of this bulb just lowers pulse voltage. The result is a non-smooth transition from bright white to a greenish tint.

LED lighting, if not for concentrated use, is nowhere near energy efficient as fluorescents or HID lights. Lighting efficacy of LEDs are typically 2 to 2.5 times that of incandescent bulbs, whereas lighting efficacy of fluorescents are about 4 times.

Bottomline: Get this bulb only if you want to use it from a very close distance to your work area.

Pros: Puts light right on target where it is needed at a penny-pinching energy usage. The bulbs run quite cool, barely getting warm & seem great so far, just like the 36 LED bulbs we already have from DX. The price is incredible when compared to similar products at most other websites & retail stores.

Cons: These don't seem to put out that much more light than the 36 LED models, really. These bulbs seem to be sensitive to voltage spikes so we run ours plugged in to surge-protection units to be on the safe side.

Other Thoughts: When used for applications such in a goose-neck lamp and used for reading or in the shop for detailed work or as a always-on light in the gargage, etc. then these efficient bulbs could work well for you. It has little "spill" though & is a more a spot-type light rather than a flood light.

Bottomline: We are truly hoping that the reliability issues are resolved in these useful & energy-efficient bulbs. With all going well, perhaps these will last a lifetime. No mercury problems like can be with compact florescents when they break. We have invested in a dozen of these & they'll pay for themselves as time goes on...& then some. Thanks again DX! :)
