Pros: We recently had a dangerous storm pass through our area with winds in excess of 110 mph. We nearly lost our home in the country and we did suffer extensive damage to two mobile homes on our property. After the horrendous winds subsided and while still receiving torrential rains, I grabbed my 606A and headed outside to survey the damage. This thing is AWESOME to say the least! It can light a row of trees 120 yards from the house and in the dark of night, I was able to discover damage that needed immediate attention. Yes, the heavy rains delivered a large wall of white light but after that subsided a bit, I was able to see very clearly and much farther than any 3-4D flashlight that we have. Plenty of well-formed spill for peripheral sight and a nice wide spot that throws very far. This light is a performer. It is built well, feels solid and the threads are clean and mate well. Rear clicky is solid.
Cons: None that I can see. Maybe wish it was a forward clicky instead of a reverse, but that's no big deal. Wife says it doesn't tail stand, but she'll get over it.
Other Thoughts: The light in CR2 mode is beautifully small and easily fits in your pocket but it seems to get quite warm if you leave it on for extended periods of time. Not sure how that would effect lifespan, but after testing and playing with it for a while, I've stocked up on CR2 lithium batteries as a backup to our backup.
Bottomline: Get this light! Sure there are cheaper AA lights, but this one is a real performer. It's built well and the coating appears to be tough enough for anything we'll put it through and we'll put it through a lot, living out in the country. We're buying more.
Pros: One of the best deals at DealExtreme. This Q5 version of the light is much brighter than the Q4 version (SKU 04328)I purchased a few months ago. I thought the first was outstanding but now I want to dump it and get another one of this version. This version is a couple of dollars cheaper too.
Cons: The switch on this unit, the Q5, and the earlier unit Q4 both felt loose and eventually the first unit switch jammed. The proper tool to fix the switch is a retaining ring pliers, which (using the right bit) fits right into the switch housing holes inside the tailcap. Just unscrew the switch using the retaining ring pliers. Once you have the switch out you'll find that there is a plastic ring that threads into the aluminum switch housing (to hold the switch in place), and on both flashlights the plastic retaining ring was not threaded into the housing, causing the switch to be misaligned. The plastic ring has holes for the retaining ring pliers, and you thread the plastic ring in properly and tighten it up, then thread the switch housing back into the tailcap and tighten the housing in the tailcap. The switch then operates perfectly and is exteremely solid. There is nothing wrong with the switch other than the quality control in the assembling by the factory.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: This is the version of the UltraFire WF-606A to get. Just correct the improper assembling of the switch in the housing and you will be very happy with your purchase. There is no need to replace the switch.
Pros: Cree Q5, perfectly white light!Powerfull spot, bright for 2xAA.Small and compact flashlight when usind 1xCR2 baterie.Uses AA's, easy to find.Good quality, even the lanyard!Mine came with no flaws.
Cons: Doesn't stand because the of the bottom switch.I can't find a tatical switch that fit's.It was cheaper if it uses also CR123, because they are easier to find, both bateries and charger.Could take more advantage of the Cree q5 emiter. It's expensive for the light output.
Other Thoughts: The body of the flashlight it's thin.I'll try to fit an CR123, it's cheaper and more powerfull!Maybe I'll change the driver for one with 1000mA. But it doesen't seem very easy to change.I have a DIY 3xAAA Cree R2, and it has exactly the same output as this one, except that this light is more white.
Bottomline: I bought this to replace my old Maglite 2AA, and it does the job, I just miss the focus..It's a nice pocket flashlight using 1xCR2.I'd love to find a tatical switch for this one...
Pros: This light has really bright throw (quite narrow though). I can easily see the light spot on buildings 150 meters away, and that's with half exhausted batteries (I don't have fresh ones at hand). When pointed to a white ceiling, it lights up whole room (but it cannot tail-stand). I can easily look at usual 100 Wt bulb but I can't look at this flashlight's bulb.Flood light is more like a normal LED flashlight.Pure white light.Looks very cool, very quality look and feel.It uses standard AA batteries.Good size, not too small and still fits jack pocket.Seems to be quite spill resistant.
Cons: For this price you can get a bunch of simpler flashlights. But still this one is not expensive at all (for what it is).
Bottomline: If you need a very bright but pocket torch, this one is the first to look at!
