Ownership verified by DX Alright for the price

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: It is reasonably bright for an LED run on just one AA battery. It is quite compact and feels sturdy.

Cons: It worked well for a week, before I started having problems with the clicky switch. I took it out of my bag once a day to find my keys and I started having to tap the back a few times before the light would come on.

Other Thoughts: Soldering isn't good somewhere. I don't have time to try to fix it. This review is quite detailed but somehow doesn't meet up to the word limit.

Bottomline: Try your luck. It still works now but the clicky is fickle.

Pros: Very good price
Very useful.
It runs on only one AA battery and it runs for a long time. Only replaced the battery once or twice in a couple of months and it gets used a fair bit. It is ideal to keep in a glove box of a car. Owned torch for a couple of months now, haven't had any dramas. Switch seems fine. Bought over five of them now for friends and family who have seen it and heard the price.
Comes with a keyring to attach to a set of keys.

Cons: Not that bright.

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: For the price its a steal. Cant get anything like that in retail shops in Australia for under $5 AUD.

Ownership verified by DX Good sturdy light that died way too young

Pros: A good sturdy feeling light. It's nice and small, and puts out decent light for the money.Only takes a single double A battery.

Cons: Burnt itself out after 3 weeks of use. No way to pull apart the emitter end to see what the problem was.

Other Thoughts: I had this thing for about 4 weeks with some on and off light usage (working on computers in dark places, searching for the cat etc) and it worked just great for the most part until I was working on a computer and smelled something burning, the light flickered off real quick twice, then about 20 seconds later it turned itself off, never to be revived. I had assumed the smell was a blow power supply in the computer until I opened the light to change it's battery.. Nope, flashlight cooked itself with a single standard double A battery (Not a higher voltage lithium)..

Bottomline: The bottom line is, that this is probably a unique thing. Most are probably very reliable, but mine baked itself before it finished off even it's first battery.

Pros: + Cheap.
+ While not particularly bright, it is brighter than a mag solitaire and sufficient to help you find your way in the dark.
+ Sort of tail stands if you remove the lanyard and don't sneeze.
+ Nice shape and size - very small.
+ Uses just a single AA battery.

Cons: - Light color is a little too cool - though I've seen far worse
- You'll be tempted to remove the lanyard to get the light to tail stand. If you do, you'll run into the following issues: 1) It will be very difficult to reattach the lanyard and 2) You'll realize that the design of the switch makes it fairly stable while off, but quite wobbly while on. (why???)
- Gratuitously has the word "police" on the barrel. How does this make the flashlight more desirable?
- Less bright than the ubiquitous 3xAAA 9 LED lights that cost about the same, though still usefully bright.
- The body is plastic.
- The plastic lens on mine had scratches and some fuzz/dust trapped underneath the lens.

Other Thoughts: I see those 9 LED flashlights as the main competitor for this one. The advantages of this one are size and the use of a single AA. The advantages of the 9 LED lights is greater brightness and the aluminum body that many of those lights have.
If the run times are equivalent, then this light might be a better bet because it will have 1/3 the battery cost.
The "1W" label is would be of dubious use even if it were true. It tells us nothing about the brightness of the flashlight.

Bottomline: Despite the negatives, it's hard to complain given the price. It outperforms bargain basement incandescents, is very compact, looks OK, and should have low ownership costs if the battery life is decent with the single AA battery.
I might have come back to order some more if the barrel hadn't said "police".
