Pros: Charges most things. I've even charged a car battery with it - albeit somewhat slowly. With a bit of ingenuity making up battery holders it can be persuaded to charge most things though a lower current option for small capacity cells would be nice.
Cons: Manual is confusing and a poor print job - the pictures are hard to make out. Nor does it do a very good job of explaining things. And it would help a lot if I didn't need a magnifying glass to read it at all.Heat dissipation ought to be better.
Other Thoughts: The buzzer is VERY loud - but it can be turned off. Personally I prefer to leave it on on general safety grounds.
Bottomline: Non-working USB port is a pity. Would be nice if it was usable for logging stuff. Not a deal breaker though. Charges things just fine, replaced quite a lot of other chargers.
Pros: Charge almost anything.Build quality was better than I expected.
Cons: 5W maximum discharge means it can take very long to discharge a higher voltage pack.Didn't detect the peak on a brand new NiMH pack I got for my Roomba resulting in overcharging the cells.
Other Thoughts: I read reviews stating it gets very hot when discharging but I found that didn't seem to be the case. I did put some thermal conductive compound on the mosfet and use an ATX power supply to power it with the charger above the fan.It would be nice if DX sold battery holders so it would be easier to charge lose cells such as AA AAA.
Bottomline: Great charger for the price.
Pros: It works great, and brought back some batteries to live.Charges much better than all the other Chargers I own.Supports all kind of Batteries.
Cons: Sometimes the auto mode does not stop the charging (perhaps defect battery), so it is important to use the timer and the temperature stop.
Other Thoughts: I had a NiCD driller battery which was completely dead. After charging and discharging it a few times with this chargers, it worked great again.
Bottomline: As it is also written in the manual, don't let it charge when you are not at home. IT works great, but I don't trust such electrical stuff.
Pros: -The price...can't beat it.-Charges almost any type of battery.-small size.-comes with lots of different cables.-It does have data capabilities, if you have the technical ability to get it working.
Cons: -USB port is not a USB port. DO NOT PLUG IT INTO YOUR COMPUTER.-overall accuracy of the this charger is not very good.-Balancing not as accurate as it should be, but it is better than not balancing at all.-lack of an insulator between the bottom of the circuit board and the case could lead to short circuits. The ends of the components are very close to the case.-as mentioned before, there is a transistor that should be thermally bonded to the case and it is not.
Other Thoughts: I bought this charger because it was supposed to have a USB port. It turns out the data on the "USB" port is actually TTL serial data @ 9600 baud. I did get manage to get the data from this charger to work. I used a USB to serial UART device (many companies use these to program their speed controllers, ca$tle, xcel3r1n, h3xtr0nic etc.) based on the CP2102 chip. I then used a freeware program called LogView2, using the Bantam A6 device setting, to display the data. It works quite nicely, though I have not tested the software extensively yet.
Bottomline: If you need a charger and can't afford a really good one, this one is a good buy.
