Pros: I bought two TR-801's back in December of 2008. I just bought one of these. They're totally different. It appears that DX is having another company manufacture them.
Cons: Differences include: Smooth reflector (instead of textured like the description states and like my old ones) Brass heatsink is left uncoated (brass colored) whereas on the photo & the old ones I own it's chromed. Body is machined slightly different (thickness of cuts, depths, etc) Only has a spring in the tailcap whereas the old ones have a spring on the tailcap & driver. Driver is a bit different but still has same modes (strobe is slower on new light). Brightness appears to be comparable but the LED is mounted on a different star (black instead of white). Laser etched logos are slightly different in size & the CREE logo is not the same. Finish on new light is a slightly lighter gray
Bottomline: Still a good light, but definitely being manufactured by a different company.
Pros: Wery bright , especialy if you before hav used only usual bulb flashlightsgood four mounting on bycicle bars , as it is very compact, i use sku.15642 but a litle bit upgraded with those soft pad for furniture legs , with i glued inside, and now it works perfectruntime is somevhere 1 hour and 20 minits after wat there is stiil useful light for 20 minits (2500ah)
Cons: I have two of them , and one works ok, but second one have problems with contact and it must bee srewwed open and close for many times to get it working, the bad thing is that I disambled it and still didnt found where is the problem cos all solderings looks ok :(
Other Thoughts: its like a lotery 50to50 will work or not , atleast in my case , but its not a surprise with this price and uncerting assembling , there are almoust 2 mm diference in body lenght
Bottomline: but 18$x2 is still cheaper than brand name :) and maybe this is only one case with those problems, so if i needed flashlight i still vill by this one.
Pros: Its really bright. Compare to my Olight M20 running on 2xCR123 primaries, its slightly dimmer. But compare to my Olight T20 Tactical on 2xCR123 primaries, its slightly brighter. Hence its between 220lumens and 250lumens, which is what the manufacturer had claim (230 lumens). All round o-ring protected to ensure water tightness.
Cons: 1. The switch is a tad difficult to press. Not as smooth as MTE, Olight, Fenix. The GITD button cover is also not as bright as desire (much dimmer than my 12" wall clock with the GITD coating).2. It gets warm up pretty fast at high power.
Other Thoughts: Well, as US$16.42 per pc (as compare to Olight M20 US$90+), what can you complain?
Bottomline: Get it with no remorse. The swtich can be change.
