Ownership verified by DX New driver in these
Posted by rdnman on 5/27/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Very bright, this is my second unit and this new one blows the first one I had totally away. I think this has a different driver in it then any of the previous builds (see details in other thoughts). Finish is excellent no flaws in the anodizing and fit and threads are good. Nice compact size sleek and classy looking. Dissipates heat well gets warm but not too hot. Fits protected cells no problem. Great runtime with the three modes. Orings at all threaded connections and at lens.

Cons: Emitter was slightly off center on my last unit (not enough to bother me) but was better then my first unit which was considerably off. Does not tailstand. No memory mode, if it is off for a little while it will start back up in high. If you turn it off and don't wait long when you start it back up it goes to the next mode. I personally like the light to start up in high every time.

Other Thoughts: My first unit draws only .7ma high, .53ma medium, and .24ma low, on a fully charged protected cell. This new unit runs at 1.29ma, .39ma, and .058ma on a a very slightly discharged protected cell at 4.15v. It is significantly brighter with a very white light. I was going to get a P7 next but this is so bright I might not bother. Can be easily modified to tailstand. Did I mention this light is very bright. I liked my first unit but I love this new one as the driver does not underdrive the LED like the old units.

Bottomline: Sleek design and very portable because of its compact size. If they stick with this driver you will love this light as much as I do.

Ownership verified by DX My best

Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Very bright, low battery consumption. Very small and handy. Pleasant beam colour.
Sehr hell, klein und handlich. Kein kaltes Licht. Geringer Stromverbrauch

Cons: Build quality could be better. I had to clean and grease threads and o-rings but now it works fine. Strobe modes.
Gewinde und O-Ringe mußten gereinigt und gefettet werden.

Other Thoughts: My MTE torch with a P7 LED is not really brighter but has a much higher current consumption. To get rid of the idiotic Strobe modes I will finally replace the driver.
Meine MTE mit P7 LED ist nicht wirklich heller, hat aber fast den 3-fachen Stromverbrauch. Um die blödsinnigen Strobe Modes los zu werden, werde ich noch die Elektronik tauschen.

Bottomline: It is my favorite torch.
Ganz klar meine Beste. Dagegen kann man alles von Maglite vergessen.

Ownership verified by DX Great light

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Well it's certainly BRIGHT.
If there was a problem with some people getting an inferior emitter, *I* didn't get one.
Head and tailsprings together- neat!
Threads are fairly smooth.

Cons: I wish it were the absolute minimum size, but it's a bit larger. Well, exactly the dimensions shown though. And this is one of the smallest single 18650 lights you'll find anyways.
I don't like these crenulated "tactical" heads", which is just about everything nowadays. They hurt my hand reaching for it in my pocket. And what, and you actually supposed to defeat an attacker with this??
No idea why there's a strobe or SOS mode... has anyone EVER needed one of these?

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: It's a buy!

Pros: very bright at high 0,85A it outshines my 14500 Dexlight (running @ 1,25A)or my Rexlight and my Fenix P3D. The coating is very good (better than standard HAII)You (almost)can sharpen a knife on it. the build was better than expected (led had a heatsink double springs. glow in the dark switch rubber. glass lens. good centered Cree (not yellow 4 bond wires). stable lightoutput

Cons: It will roll of a table
Can't stand on it's back
You have to press the switch pretty far and hard and there is a lot of play (I prefer a faster tighter switch)front threads are a bit rough.
uses PWM on med and low (pretty high but noticeable)
rough soler job at some places (but OK)

Other Thoughts: I like the crazy fast strobe (your pets will hate you for it)

Bottomline: with a fresh battery:
low: 0,25A
med: 0,55A
High:0,85A (but brighter than others on 1,25A
great light!
