Ownership verified by DX Nice charger
Posted by kurtisboyd on 6/22/2009
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Small and compact with retractable cable.
Uses any type of AA battery.
Stops charging when power is low, and keeps the battery at one point (so might charge from 40% to 80% and then stay on 80% until battery dies).
Useful for when you aren't near a charger.

Cons: You will need either quite a few pairs of lower capacity batteries or some very high capacity batteries to fully charge your iPod (well, the iPod touch 1st gen anyway).
The plug is a little bit hard to unplug from the ipod when you are done (you have to squeeze the buttons hard and pull hard).

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: Very affordable and useful little gadget, but you're going to need some good batteries to fully charge it.

Ownership verified by DX Works with iPod Touch 2G!

Pros: - Good price
- Came in a nice shiny box
- Nice retractable cord
- Should work with all iPod models (iPod Touch 2G for sure)
- Great product because iPod Touches use up a lot of battery when playing games

Cons: - I think it drains the battery even though you're not using it so you should take the batteries out when you're not using it.
That's about it

Bottomline: Must have for when you're traveling or if you have an iPod Touch and you play a lot of games on it.

Pros: - Very good to juice up your iPhone/iPod battery when it is running low;
- Small and good to carry around;
- Affordable price;
- Better than rechargeable batteries, since you can buy AA batteries anywhere;
- Tested and working perfectly with iPhone 1st gen and iPod 5.5G;

Cons: - It looks cheap and poorly built;
- Retractable cable must be correctly handled. Otherwise will easily break.
- The connector fit is horrible, particularly when unplugging it from the iPod/iPhone.

Other Thoughts: - Recharging time and speed seems to depend on your AA batteries' condition. Tried some old rechargeable AA batteries and the results were satisfying;
- Do not leave the AA batteries inside the charger when not using it: they will drain out;
- When recharge completes, remove the connector. Leaving it connected, seems to drain out the iPhone/iPod battery.
- Tried only ONCE with an iPhone 3G and did not work. Maybe I should do some more testing to confirm compatibility.

Bottomline: This is not an accessory to be used frequently, unless you travel a lot. However, it is a lifesaver when your iPod/iPhone battery drains out and there is no AC power source around.

Ownership verified by DX Perfect to compensate for an awful battery life.

Pros: - Works perfectly when your battery is close to death and you need to squeeze some more usage out of your phone.
- The cable is really long which I cannot really think of any use for, but is useful nonetheless.
- Got a good retractable system, easy to use.
- Locks the connector to the iPhone until you squeeze the buttons, which means it will not get out easily. Useful if you're charging while traveling. (Also a possible con, see below.)

Cons: - When I slid the lid off the top bit near the connector got unstuck and with the lid off it can open a bit, but when the lid is closed it is secured tightly. Not much of a problem and easily solvable but it's something to look out for.
- It locks the connector to the iPhone until you squeeze the buttons. This may be very useful, but if you're used to the standard connector you might need to get used to it.
- It doesn't work with standard Alkaline batteries, it requires high power rechargeable ones. The only ones I had and I got them to work with is with 2300mAH batteries. Got quite frustrated until I figured it out.

Other Thoughts: It takes a while to charge, so be patient while it charges. I just left it in for 5 minutes and it went from 70% to 100%.
(I got my phone jailbroken so I can see the exact percentage)

Bottomline: Definitely get this if you have an iPhone (especially 3G) since it has terrible batterylife.
