Ownership verified by DX Great tools for a great hobby
Posted by st0ne on 11/8/2009
Involvement: Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: The tools are webb designed and durable. They have godd shapes, with a great combination. You can always find the pick you need. This is a greate set for a begines, as I am.

Cons: There is a pick with an interesting shape, and I don't have a clue when to use that. But maybe it's my fault because this is my first pick set and I'am still a novice.

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: Lockpicking ins't easy. You should by a lock with 4 or less pins to practice. but you can used to it, just practice, and read MIT's lock pick guide.

Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: You want to learn how to and have some experience its great
You get a nice feeling what you do inside the lock
Ceap cheaper cheapest way to get a set

Cons: Easy to bend
In my set i don´t have a extractor
Tooke a long time shipping
and one Pickform i never seen before

Other Thoughts: Its the cheapest way to get a starter set. But you have to by some more Picks from other Brands.
To many Hooksstile Picks this shoud change

Bottomline: Nice set for Beginning but need a little overwork. Same Pick in Varios Stile. The Tension is overworked its now very small.
I own other set´s with expensive Picks witch are not as good as this set.

Ownership verified by DX Very good for the price

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: At first if u dont have any idea or if u think u can use it without any experience u should leave it. But if u really want to learn the basic things it is just perfect for u

Cons: Breaks really easily nothing for me^^ The built quality is acceptable but they should improve it.

Other Thoughts: Some parts were missing. Still it is really cheap, they cost 6 timers more here!!! It looks like the ones in the picture. There should be a better range of picks. I will be waiting ! ! ! ! !

Bottomline: Its worth its price

Ownership verified by DX Nice, but odd set for the money.

Pros: A. Extremely sturdy, even the smaller picks
B. Very comfortable to hold onto during long picking sessions
C. The tension wrench I received was very useful (more on this later)
D. It got me into the hobby of locksport - I had my first padlock open within about 15 minutes with absolutely no instructions
E. The slender short hook included in this set is my absolute favorite pick (and I've bought and made many now)
F. The small half-diamond pick can be thrown no-spin style from about 10 feet away and penetrate into treated pine, making it an awesome improvised weapon in case someone sneaks up on you while you're picking their garden shed (although I don't condone use of these for illegal activities)

Cons: A. I only got one tension wrench as opposed to two (as shown). While it rocked the party for about 2 months, it finally snapped on me while applying very light tension(appeared to have been made of some zinc alloy as opposed to steel)
B. I finally broke last night, after many months my favorite pick from the set - a very slender short hook that I have become nearly dependent on for smaller keyways. I was applying a bit too much pressure on steel pins though, so I could be to blame
C. Too many hook-type picks and the odd inclusion of a dimple rake that's all about useless without other dimple picks to support it
D. Not full tang - handle breakage could be a problem after long time usage (but if you get into picking, you'll probably buy better picks later, like me before that happens

Other Thoughts: I wonder why mine only came with 8 pieces?

Bottomline: Just buy these if you're curious. Lockpicking is a challenging and rewarding sport. These are an excellent and inexpensive way to get into the hobby. I've spent over $150 on other "professional" picks and still use these on a regular basis. In fact, I'm about to order another set!
