Ownership verified by DX Nice One But my one just 3mode
Posted by anatTHA on 7/24/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Just impressed the nice finish and solid work.
Nice colour and finish let's it not look cheap.
Nice spill, and spot is also useful. not to tight.

Cons: A little bit biger as expect. For AA and 14500 Flashlight.
My one just 3 mode. (I feel it better than useless 6 mode). But No Mode Memory. that make me anoyed. Lucky that only 3Mode.

Other Thoughts: If you looking for the strong EDC Torch that use 14500. This the one. and hope you get the version that you expect.

Bottomline: Umm. truely there is a better one on this price. But i thaink this one is most beutiful. Suitable for gifts. expectualy for someone who care.
Thanks for your patient for my poor English.
it's DX's false.Cuz 500car. rule.
So Blame them :)

Ownership verified by DX Good with lithium battery
Posted by slipe on 7/18/2009
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Excellent mode control
Protection selectable
Well made
Bright with 14500
Clip
Nice beam and color

Cons: Switch recessed too far - hard to press
Poor performance with AA

Other Thoughts: Compared to my Ultrafire C3 (Sku 1993) it is weak with NiMH AAs. I thought maybe I had a bad battery so I swapped them around – the Ultrafire was still much brighter. With protected 14500s it becomes a different light. The Ultrafire still seems slightly brighter if both have lithiums, but the difference is very slight (if there is any at all). The Akoray is quite bright with rechargeable 14500s. If you plan to use alkaline or NiMH batteries you might consider another light.
Once you get the hang of the programming you can decide which 3 modes you want active. And it restarts on the last mode you used. You can also select the levels but it is tricky getting a very low setting. The program setup is well thought out IMO.
While messing with the settings I accidentally turned protection on. I think it is defaulted off. Protection makes NiMH even weaker. Easy enough to turn back off once you figure out what is happening.
Mine didn’t come lubricated, but that isn’t a big deal. Otherwise the quality seems quite high.
The switch is recessed way too far. I can still trigger it with my thumb, but it isn’t as easy as it should be. I would probably have given it an overall 5 if the switch wasn’t so poorly designed.

Bottomline: An overall good quality light with 14500s.

Ownership verified by DX Very nice programmable flashlight
Posted by newbie74 on 7/3/2009
Involvement: Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Very useful flashlight. It's quite bright, but that is not all. I've been looking for a very weak light to walk around the house at night with lights off. For that, even the 22000mcd keychains are too bright, but the low mode here is pretty low and seems to lat forever.
The torch is pretty solid and seems quite waterproof (untested).
The led is a silver lined Q5. Reflector and galss are clean and scratch free.

Cons: Pricey;
Recessed, hard to press clicker;

Other Thoughts: I got the 3 mode programmable one. Better than the 6 mode IMHO.

Bottomline: Best torch I have.

Ownership verified by DX Great budget 1xAA
Posted by higbvuyb on 7/2/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: less than 1 day

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Great build quality.
Still shipping the programmable 3-mode version, which is superior to the normal 6-mode.
Nicely machined square threads and knurling. Tailstands.
Very bright, good Q5 LED.

Cons: Threads did not come lubed.
The inside is quite narrow, Trustfire 14500's do not fit unless you peel off the outer covering, which is not recommended.
The orange tailcap is not standard 12mm size, and is a bit hard to press, as it is very recessed.
Hard to unscrew switch.

Other Thoughts: Tap quickly 6 times to enter programming mode.

Bottomline: Probably the best value 1xAA light at this price.
