Ownership verified by DX It's an $8 Knife - Get Real!
Posted by themoth on 7/23/2009
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: First, it's an $8 knife which is a replica of a $200 knife...and a good one at that.
On the two I received there is no blade wobble
Both locks worked correctly
Blades arrived sharpened

Cons: The blade is only partially sharpened on one side, or is painted over the grind.

Other Thoughts: I guess every hobby has its snobs and talkers....you know, the people that just sit around all day and chat on forums about their hobby. There's always the few that preach that they are smartest and most knowledgable, and that you have to buy the most expensive name branded knife because everything else is crap. Well, one thing I've learned is that most of these guys are all talk and have never done a hard 8 hour days work using whatever tool or item they are preaching about.
I keep that in mind when I read comments like, this is only good for putting in a drawer, or that the item is useless, you are wasting your time/money.
Get real, this is an $8 sharpened piece of steel that cuts quite well, that can fold up and go in your pocket. It's not a display case queen, its a working knife, to be used for those jobs you'd be afraid to dirty your $200 blade on.

Bottomline: It's an $8 knife that cuts and opens as designed to. The wave works.
Don't expect some exotic steel blade, or genuine branding for the price.
It's a heck of a deal, and I will buy more. At this price, they are almost disposable.

Ownership verified by DX ...not good

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstar
Usefulness: starstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: -wave opener works
-based on great design
-looks good
-handle feels like real g10
-less than 5% the cost of the real thing

Cons: -out of the box there was a bit of blade play
-lock mechanism needed to be filed to work smoothly
-chisel grind with useless serrations
-there are more attractive versions of the commander they could have copied

Other Thoughts: I ordered this knife with low expectations, and they were met. I had to see for myself how good an 8 dollar Emerson copy can be. I was aware of it's flaws before ordering it. Despite it's problems, I don't regret buying it.

Bottomline: As is, I would not carry this knife. I plan to regrind/reshape the blade, removing the serrations and deepening the curve. If it holds an edge it might make it's way into my rotation.

Ownership verified by DX Great knife

Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: This knife is really unique the quality is almost perfect little wobble in the blade but nothing very noticeable. The Wave feature is hands down the best feature. Blade is decent quality not the best but pretty good.

Cons: Little wobble in the blade but other than that nothing else

Other Thoughts: Get the knife for the price it is well worth it. Price is so cheap you can get a few and throw away when or if the knife gets crappy. You can also dull the blade and use for Kali or Silat training.

Bottomline: Great Buy very happy

Ownership verified by DX Great Knife, must have for self-defensive/ duty

Pros: Great knife for all around use, 100% authentic replica of the Real Emerson Commander BT wave knife. Just google it to see how great this replica measures up to the original. Comes sharp out of the box, and i plan to send one to my dad who is serving abroad, although he has an original emerson CQC-10

Cons: none, just the shipping took long, two weeks, but that's normal coming from Hong Kong

Other Thoughts: just wish there were more Emerson replicas on DX, like the CQC-7 or Police Utility....hmmmmm

Bottomline: Buy it, and you wont regret it especially if you want a perfect self defense knife or need to replace your swiss army "JUNK" knife for a knife that works and intimidates......hahaha
