As discussed at our forums, this laser does not come with an IR filter. So for safety you should wear protective glasses when using the pointer.
Burning demo of Thin Plastic follows. The laser can also burn thin plastic at a distance (since energy is focused as they are lasers), provided that you have steady hands or something to keep the laser dot on one spot for a split second (you can use things like tripods). I will take some "remote burning" pictures and upload them shortly.
Pros: -It's freaking cheap! places like wicked lasers and other sites sell at prices way way more than this.(there are indeed some things which DE's laser lacks, but the great price difference covers all these shortcomings)-Powerful. it is just so cool to see the beam shine all the way to the night sky.-uses AAA batteries, so i can use rechargables. money saver.
Cons: -Not as powerful as i thought. i shined the beam on a piece of paper, but it doesn't seem to burn.-The button has to be pressed quite hard before the beam comes up. however, after playing around with the button for some time, the problem was totally gone, and it's working fine right now.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: Great cheap laser. Fun to play with without burning a hole in your pocket.
Pros: - Very bright dot, it can be seen under direct sunlight.- Laser beam is very bright at night and somewhat visible in a dimly lit room.- Uses AAA batteries (cheaper and easier to find than CR2).
Cons: - It's shaped like a pen, but it's too long to carry around in your pocket.- No UV filter, don't point it too close!
Other Thoughts: It came in a nice little box with 2 AAA batteries which didn't last too long, I suggest using good brand batteries or better yet, rechargeable ones. Also, this is not a burning laser, if you want to burn stuff, get a red one.
Bottomline: Great fun! It's best used outdoors in the evening or night, to point at distant objects. You can point at the sky and the stars! The dot shines brightly on faraway objects, in fact, it's a bit too bright for indoor use.Highly recommended.
Pros: -Extremely bright, the beam is really visible and very bright during the night, at dusk a little bit.-Great build quality, i was expecting the worst, i think they listened the critics and made an improved version, the button is firm, the laser itself solid, it looks really durable
Cons: -Too bright, if you look at the point be prepared, your eyes will be under extreme stress, it's really dangerous, don't even think about pointing to someones's eyes-It's not a burning laser, period. This is for fun, still, i wouldn't even try without protective glasses, you will be forced to look at the beam point.-You get two beams after some minutes playing with it, relax, it comes back to normal when it cools down
Other Thoughts: This laser is pure fun, with such a wow factor. There are two kind of people: the ones who think of it as a weapon, and those who want one already...wow factor guaranteed
Bottomline: Buy it, it's pure fun
Pros: I had a 50mw same build before. This is 4 times as strong so about. (So if that was 30mw, then this is about 120mw.)The beam is visible in a lighted room, but not in sunshine. Burns grey plastic (I uploaded video and pics).Maybe this is a new build, but button is not loose (unlike on my 50mw).
Cons: If you look at the point from close, then it is not the best feeling for the eyes. Buying safety goggles would be a good idea.A big con is the low temperature range for operation. The instruction says 20-35 Celsius. You might use it below, if you warm it up. I could not try it on higher temperatures, but they say then the beam is split and output is weak.
Bottomline: I bought it just for fun. I think this will serve this function well. :-)There is a big price difference between this and the green lasers above 200mw max output. I would buy this again. (My friends are about to order now. :-))

Insert the two included AAA batteries, put on the battery cover, and you are good to go for this baby.* Positive pole of the batteries must be installed upward, pointing away from the LED head, in order for this unit to work.
