Pros: 1. cheap for a RTL8187 chip (which is backtrack3 capable)2. very strong card3. comes with usb and antennae (usb to mini usb)4. comes with cd but not latest drivers5. comes in box and well packaged with some protection for tough mail handling
Cons: i think it should be cheaper for a card copy of the alfayour laptop will not last very long on battery supply if this card it hooked up as well
Other Thoughts: best to download drivers from realtekwill suck your battery dry if you use on laptopdoesn't overheat like some wifi cards
Bottomline: buy if you want the RTL8187 chipset without paying $80+ US dollarshaven't seen better value for money
Pros: 1) it has r-sma antenna connector (standard for wi-fi) and not sma, like it is written on the box2)Case is made from good plastic3)RTL8187 chipset, works in linux out of the box and in windows with apropriate driver
Cons: 1)its price is 2 times bigger than price from this device http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20157, which is practicaly the same device (same chips) only with smaller bord and crappy case :)2)you need a usb cable3)could be smaller
Other Thoughts: It is a great device for hacking networks. It has a good case so it wont break when you put it in a beg and carry it around with you... The case is stable, so it wont fall when you put it on a flat surface. This is cool, because antena is always in the polarity you choose :)
Bottomline: it is high-priced, but better made than other same products on dealextreme. And it works great...
Pros: Cheap - I could pay much more than this for antenna with similar gain to the one attached. Picks up networks farther away and seems to connect to them reliably enough - if only Windows didn't insist on messing up the connection. Works excellently with Debian which is where it normally gets used.
Cons: Casing does get a bit warm. Otherwise no issues to report at all.
Other Thoughts: Well supported by aircrack-ng and works well with this. Not that I would use this in an illegal manner to break into networks but very handy to show peop[le how insecure their networks are. This earns me rather more than the device cost.
Bottomline: If I lose or break this one I'll definitely be getting another one immediately. It would be nice if it were waterproof for outdoors use with a nice long cable so I could mount it one the roof so I could access my home network from work.
Pros: The most important feature, apart from the hi power transmission levels, it is the chipset, it is a RTL8187, that it is supported for traffic injection. With Aircrak-ng you need to compile a new driver and so on, but everything works almost out-of-the-box. With Kismac-ng, it is supported directly by the application. With Aircrack-ng suite (in general, with Linux) you can also configure the transmission power, don't need to use it always to the MAX, just type:$ iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1 (to activate tx power control)$ iwconfig wlan0 txpower <value of 0 to 35>Yes, all of this is to fill the 500 chars :)
Cons: A bit pricey when compared with other similar hardware, even with some other wifi cards in DealExtreme
Other Thoughts: I am very happy with reception and transmission capabilities, I have tested it comparing with my previously reference card, an USB G122 from DLINK and this is really a most "powerful" card.
Bottomline: Pricey but it works, and it is a RTL8187.
