Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Build quality is surprisingly good. The adapter feels well built and has a good finish. Detachable antenna is a plus. Well supported chipset, works out of the box on my Ubuntu setup. No connection problems at all during my month of ownership.

Cons: It's a bit big, on my PC it obstructs four USB-ports if I connect it directly. Had to use a short extension cable to be able to use the other ports.

Other Thoughts: I bought this specifically for use with Linux and I'm not disappointed.

Bottomline: Very good value for money. Not the smallest, but I don't care when it works as well as it does.

Pros: The adapter is an average size for a USB wifi adapter.
The antenna connector is a perfect size, didn't have any problem attaching antennas to it.
You can use Windows network manager instead of the Ralink software that comes with it.

Cons: The Ralink software that comes with it. It has a LOT of options, but the graphics are poor and it is awkward to get around.
There is no option to control TX/RX power of the adapter. That option may help improve gain.
Under Windows 7, the device installs as bluetooth. you have to go to device manager, go to the "unknown" bluetooth device properties and click have disk. then you can manually select the drivers to install. I used the drivers in the first folder (alphabetically) on the cd.
Reception with the included antenna was at par to slightly less than my built-in wifi-n laptop.

Other Thoughts: I tried this with a 7db wifi antenna on ebay got it for $2.84 shipped (hint to DX). The reception on this was even worse than the antenna that comes with it.
Under Windows 7, this device will NOT automatically refresh the AP list. So if you drive around, then look at the list you will see like 50 AP's on it. to fix, you must physically unplug and replug the wifi to your computer so it can refresh the list. This is probably a bug from the Windows 7 RC, but you should know about it.

Bottomline: Get it to replace your internal if it stopped working or if you have an external antenna that REALLY has a db gain (like a $100 antenna). looks like all the $10 and under antennas are s**t.
