Pros: Very cheap.Fluid-filled, probably water.It works flawlessly.Less than $1.50.
Cons: The fluid filling is probably water.Magnetization is not very strong so it doesn't work well near some other gadgets, but works ok in the open.It doesn't glow in the dark. The casing doesn't look very strong, it seems like it can break and make it look like you wet your pants.
Other Thoughts: Pretty nice cheap compass you can carry anywhere and not lose orientation :)
Bottomline: Cheap and simple compass. It is fluid filled and works as expected. The casing doesn't look very strong, but then again, it is very cheap.
Pros: An overall great, basic compass. Fluid filled makes the reading nice and steady.I bought one like this at Wally's for about $5, and it's nearly identical quality. You can get 3 of them here for the same price.
Cons: They ship it with their inventory sticker right on the face of the compass, which is hard to remove. The back was completely bare, so I don't know why they did that. One of the 3 I ordered pointed backwards compared to the other two. But as long as you know which side points North, you're OK.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: If you're looking for a super cheap, fluid-filled compass that you won't cry if it gets lost, this is the one to get.
Pros: It is large. It is tough. It points north with the red pointer. It is fluid filled which is the ONLY way to go.
Cons: I am afraid it may get Jammed if I carry it in my pocket. When it arrived it had been jostled in all directions (presumably) and the needle had Jammed on the center post that it rests/swivels on. It took me a couple of minutes to get it seated back on the center post properly. Then after that it worked beautifully!
Other Thoughts: There is just a compass body. No shell or other housing. Fine for me just hope the needle doesn't get stuck again. I don'tknow what the fluid is.Can it freeze in winter? I'll have to wait to see.
Bottomline: It is a compass that works well when it is working. at a good price. I dont think the needle can get so off the center point that it will fully be unfixable inside its fluid filled environment. Not too small.
Pros: It IS a fluid filled compass. However, I think it's just water. This takes away some of the wobbliness. It points to the North. It also has a nice compass rose with cardinal headings and degrees.
Cons: It's fluid filled, but it's water, which is too viscous. If it as oil, the needle would have been even steadier. The green paint on the rose isn't glow-in-the-dark stuff.
Other Thoughts: I don't know if it's possible to make a magnetic compass that doesn't react unfavorable near magnetic fields and large metal objects. It certainly seems very sensitive to it.
Bottomline: Nice little compass, that seems to be robust. It's much more steady than my air-filled compass, so you can hold it in your hand and take a reading. My air-filled one I pretty much have to lay down to read, because the needle bounces around to much in my hand.
