Pros: This works at reading my cards, which is what I wanted it for.I needed something that could read CF cards (I have plenty of SD readers). After figuring out which way to insert the card (it wasn't obvious), I plugged it in, and it worked right away on Windows XP without any additional driver installation. Just a simple USB mass storage device.
Cons: As far as I can tell, it only accepts one card total, at a time. Just eject your previous card and plug in a new card. Sometimes I had to unplug the entire thing from my USB port to register the new card. This would be a problem if I used the USB hub.
Other Thoughts: I haven't even tested the USB hub portion. Not much call for it on my computer, which already has about 10 or so USB ports.
Bottomline: Cheap. Works. Now when my device with the CF card dies, I can still read the files off it. Worked with SD cards, too.
Pros: -Both a memory card reader and a USB hub in one convenient package-Supports nearly all my memory cards and sticks-LED indicators, for indicating stuff
Cons: -Cheap build quality (though that should be expected)-Extremely short USB cord (luckily I kept a spare)-Memory cards are very wobbly while inserted-AC adapter would've been nice-Doesn't support microSD/microSDHC
Other Thoughts: - USB connector broke after a few months.
Bottomline: You get what you pay for. Personally I wouldn't buy one again if I had a second chance.
Pros: It worked for a while and read all of the cards I put in it. I tried it with Compact Flash, SD and xD. Each worked as expected
Cons: The card reader stopped working after I tried to format a CF card. Now I can't read or write to any type of card. I've tried CF, SC and xD. The card reader used to show up in Windows as a drive, now it doesn't. It's like the card reader is not plugged in, expect the USB hub works
Other Thoughts: At least the very short cable and the USB hub still works. The card reader is dead
Bottomline: If it worked I would have been happy with it. I really wanted the card reader more than the USB hub.
Pros: Cheap, small, plug-and-play. It's nice that you don't need an adapter for memory stick pro duo cards. It accepts card with and without adapter.
Cons: According to linux kernel messages, the card reader is internally connected as a USB 1.1 device, instead of a USB 2.0 device. With a 2GB memory stick pro duo card, the transfer speed is only 1 megabyte/second. In another cardreader, the same card runs at 9 megabyte/second. The USB hub does not have this limit. It is a fully functional USB 2.0 hub, which I verified using a USB 2.0 memory stick.
Other Thoughts: The hub has a connector for an external 5V power supply, but the power adapter is not part of the package. It works perfect without power adapter, though.
Bottomline: For a little more than the price of a normal USB 2.0 hub, you'll get a USB 2.0 hub with an additional slow built-in card-reader.
