Pros: - I received it within a week of my initial order! Thanks DX! - I love the SSC LED's beam with the slightly bigger spot and ample spill. That's my favourite thing about this light. - The 5-mode and mode-memory works well and the ability to vary brightness is great. - It's nice and bright - certainly no disappointment there.- Build quality is very good - tailcap screws smoothly. No scratches or marks.
Cons: - I had a hell of a time getting that big yellow sticker off this thing! Please tell the manufacturers that you CAN get easily removeable stickers. Sheesh!- Head is glued, but that doesn't really bother me. - Price is not a good as some. - Clicky requires a bit more force than I would like, but it's not too bad. - Strobe and SOS are no use to me (hopefully!). - Lanyard is too small - almost useless at this size. - Low-mode is too bright - only very slightly less than Medium.
Other Thoughts: I really like these compact AA flashlights. Very useful and convenient. This one is slightly bigger than my RC-A3 (sku.5346 - which I love) and slightly brighter on high. Doesn't look as good but otherwise very similar. With the multi-modes capability I'll probably use this one more.
Bottomline: This is a great light no question. All the cons I've listed are really only minor things. It's highly recommended by me.
Pros: Pros: Pretty bright, handy size, common batteries, black color :)The light modes are the following:Low - The brightness is approximately as of typical multi-LED flashlights (8 - 25 LEDs I think) but with bigger spill. Useful at home to light up the way from the bed to the bathroom. Can be even too bright if you just wake up in the night and turn it on.Medium - Not very useful. 99% of the time I use either Low or High mode. Best combination between brightness and runtime though.High - Throws light for about 6-10 meters (even more but depends on what you think as of useful amount of light). The light's flow diameter is 2-3 meters. Great spill and color tint owing to the SSC LEDStrobe - Haven't really found a reason to use this but it might be useful to signal something. SOS - Haven't use it at all and hope there will be no ocassion to use it ever.- After a little work with tailcap, it does tail stand, could be used as a candle.- This is partially water-proof... I added 2 o-rings - in front and in tailcap and the flashlight after being put in the plate with water for 3 minutes was dry inside, enough I think, to continue working after being wet by rain or being dropped in the puddle. Still no warranties there, as you understand.
Cons: There are some cons that are if fixed by the manufacturer will make this light better and there are also some things that I would like to see in this light but with them it would be another light really with higher price (I would buy it still :)First bunch of cons:1) It's fairly glued, nothing serious, screwed out the head and the tail with scissors. Better not to be glued at all2) Lanyard is small, for three fingers only. I had a spare lanyard so replaced it immediately.3) Maybe additional o-rings as a part of standart package?Less realistic features comprise:1) As I know this lights is programmable (PIC chip is responsible for the modes and their order), so I think that would not cost a lot for the manufacturer to change a standart program for these flashlights and reorder the modes like Low-Med-High-Strobe-Sos. The progression from Low to High seems more reasonably for me, because if I want to light something only a little (like if I want to read a book and don't disturb other people in the room) I would avoid the brighter output but if I want full brightness I would not mind to start with dim light and then increase the brightness. The absolute best variant for me would be probably just Low-High, but if the manufacturer wants to keep all 5 modes at least change the order to more logical.2) It's not regulated. I'm dreaming of the same runtime on High but with constant brightness (right now in my case it's 30 minutes of almost full brightness and then the dimming becomes noticeable). Something like 1.5 hours at full brightness would be great.
Other Thoughts: Crees seem to dominate the market right now. I wish there will be more SSC LED flashlights on this site to choose from.
Bottomline: After a little work this MTE flashlight becomes a good EDC light for work at home or at the street for up-to-10-meters distances.4/5
Pros: Quite solidly built with a more floody beam. Can tailstand. The anodising has been quite good. Uses easy to find AA batteries.
Cons: Clicky switch a little hard to use. Not enough distinction between the low and medium light output.
Other Thoughts: It would be better if the low was lower.
Bottomline: This is a good allround torch that uses inexpensive AA batteries
Pros: Very bright.. 5 different modes.. operates off a single AA battery!
Cons: wayyyy to hard to take out the tail cap and install a GITD cap.Sometimes the 5 switching mode can be annoying if you click through too fast.
Other Thoughts: these are not as mod friendly as the ultrfire's are. But still bright, sometimes i wish i had gotten the single switch, BUT having the option for low brightness prolongs the battery life..
Bottomline: In the end, if you had to get one light, this one is not quiet as bright as the rebel version. but its not bad! its a little more yellow than the rebel, at least mine is.
