Pros: I've bought in total 8 of these during the last 6 months. The first ones didn't come with the 3M sticky tape on the back, and their build quality wasn't very good - there was leds a bit crooked etc. The latest ones I've received are of very good quality. These cost about half of the price that they would cost me locally.
Cons: 1 out of 8 of these that I've bought had a couple of LEDs busted. Dealextreme replaced it in accordance to their process - which is a bit tedious and thus quite a bit of extra work, but all went well.
Other Thoughts: I used these to light my kitchen cabinets that have a dim white-tinted glass. Looks very good. I also used them to light a shelf in the kitchen, adds a nice effect.
Bottomline: Good stuff, worth the price.
Pros: It's a well made, straightforward product. Surface-mount LEDs are bright and nicely affixed to the strip. The whole package is very thin.
Cons: Maybe just a hair pricey, but it seems to be of very good quality, so I can't really complain.
Other Thoughts: You cut the strip in 3-LED segments, and the protective coating is nicely removed from the contact points where you would solder. There's a 3-M adhesive backing attached to the strip as well. Total length is about 3 feet or about 1 meter.
Bottomline: This is a thin, easy to use strip of LEDs. That they operate on 12V is a great bonus, whether you're working on a car or in a computer case. The light is nice and even. I hightly reccomend!
Pros: Nicely built, eas to use and quite bright for accent illumination. Could be useful for general illumination at close range. Easy to power straight from a 12V source.
Cons: This version has quite a cool colour temprature. DX needs to stock warm white version.
Other Thoughts: Get one and play with it to get ideas for illumination etc. Its just the strip, so you need to improvise with pins or glue to affix it.
Bottomline: Good product!
Pros: I have seen this product from another source and it has many advantages. Use any multiple of the three LED sections for the amount of light desired. The surface mount LEDs are wide beam so diffusing covers are not needed. Easy to adapt for 24 volts by putting two identical cut sections in series. Looks like a 150 ohm resistor, just right to protect the LEDs at charging voltages and provide good light output.
Cons: Cut sections will require soldering to the rail pads unless suitable ribbon cable connectors are used. In that case the pads would be better gold plated for reliability. Contact cement may be needed if this strip does not have an adhesive backing.
Bottomline: Lots of possibilities with this strip. Bottom of cupboards to illuminate bench tops, replace fluoro tubes in a fluoro housing. You will think of others. Good price for 66 SMD LEDs on a strip.
