Ownership verified by DX no complaints
Posted by phlllpy on 7/22/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Super easy to work - just turn on the remote setting on the camera and then push the 1 button on the remote...
I also like the little ring so you can put a loop on it for easy holding.

Cons: It is larger than I expected but it is really thin so it is still easy to stash in the camera bag.

Other Thoughts: Works well with my Nikon D40, would definitely buy it again. I don't know how it compares to the real Nikon one, but how much better can a 1-button remote be from another?

Bottomline: Get it if you need a remote because it is really cheap and works perfect.

Ownership verified by DX I'm very satisfied!

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: +It works great (more details below)
+Low weight (17 g)
+Keychain hole
+Battery included
+Thin (6.5 mm)
+Really good price

Cons: -It's not very large (40x87 mm), but I think that it could easily have been half size.
-Makes a click noise when you press the button. After I used it a couple of times I didn't think about it though.

Other Thoughts: I have a Nikon D40, and it worked fine. When I tried it (indoors) I could point the remote in any direction, including the wall 1 meter behind me, or into another room, 90 degrees from me and the camera. The camera was 2.5 meters from me.
It also worked fine at 11 meters indoors, but not when I pointed the remote at the wall behind me. Probably it would have worked with longer distance as well, but I couldn't get further away. I assume that the working distance will decrease when the surrounding light is brighter.
Listed camera models on the included instructions sheet (I received it in June 2008): D40, D40X, D70S, D70, D50, 8400, 8800, F75, F65, F55, N65, N75, Nuvis S, Lite Touch.

Bottomline: If you only need to use the remote for Nikon, it's probably better to get this one instead of the remote that supports different cameras, because this one has only one button (no problem to find it without looking), and this one has a keychain hole.

Ownership verified by DX It works !!!!

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: Works well with my D80 and with D40.
No need to setup the camera, just point and click.
Probably will work also with other models, but I haven't tried.
It does the job, as well as the original Nikon product, but the cost is much much lower.
Recommendation: You should set your camera to work with delayed shutter release, so you are not caught with the remote in your hand.

Cons: I couldn't find any.

Other Thoughts: Recommended for every photographer, using a Nikon Camera.

Bottomline: It is so small and for that price you must have one in your camera case.
Get it.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: > This remote is much much cheaper than the official nikon remote, but it does the same job.
> Works brillianty with my Nikon D80
> Can be used on shutter burst mode
> Will AUTO-FOCUS when pushed once (on Nikon models anyway)
> Can be used for Bulb exposures on Nikon cameras - one click to start and one to end the exposure.
> Very cheap!
> Good built quality
> Free batery - you'll be using it within seconds!
> Great for self portraits and group shots with you in it!
> Very small and portable

Cons: > The range maybe isn't as good as the more expensive remotes, but its definitely satisfactory - just make sure you can see the infrared sensor on your camera and you'll be fine.

Other Thoughts: > This should eliminate the need for "myspace style" self portraits!

Bottomline: Buy it. Take self portraits and experiment with the bulb features - try making star trails for 30 minutes.. Its well worth the money!
