Ownership verified by DX Nice neutral tint, doubles as a heater

Price: starstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: Has good brightness in neutral white colour. The lenses on the individual leds spread very evenly and at a wide angle, no individual spots are visible. So this would be a plus for room lighting. Two of them on either side of a really big heatsink would replace a ~ 60W standard bulb (just estimating).
Electrical connections are easy, just solder the 2 properly marked points and you're done.

Cons: Enormous heat. I made my own pill to go with sku.13741's very good heatsink, still this gets too hot to touch after 5 min without airflow. So you need a massive heatsink for use at home.
Total brightness/Watt is significantly lower than with Cree XR-E, a lot of energy goes into heating. No way this is going to work (for long) in a standard fixture.

Other Thoughts: Small size is useless, as it can't be used without a much bigger cooler.
Should be used with a 3x700mA driver, e.g. sku10852, for optimum efficiency. Have I said "use a heatsink, and make it big"?
On a bike the heat wouln't be an issue, but then there are no optics available.

Bottomline: If you need the neutral tint and the even spread, buy it. Make sure you know how to cool it properly.

Pros: It's very bright and small
easy to use and to solder
good value for the money

Cons: get hot!!
I put it on a big hit sink and still it gets hot after 20 min.

Other Thoughts: good and bright' get it only if you know how to work with it

Bottomline: I like it

Pros: Quite an intense bright light. The beam angle is probably 100%. Easy to incorperate into a project.

Cons: Gets incredibly hot. If your thinking about using this for a bike light or flashlight, forget it. I first tried this on a vga heastsink with fan, got too hot in 1 min. Next I tries a massive passive copper cpu heatsink, too hot to touch after 20 minutes. Next an average cpu heatsink with fan, stays cool as a cucumber.

Bottomline: Great for a bright light project.

Ownership verified by DX Extremely bright LED

Ease of Use: starstarstarstar

Pros: - extremely bright LED in a single package
- nice clear white color with no tint
- easy to hook up, I just connect it to voltage regulated 12v power source and it works perfectly,
- does not require special driver if you are using voltage regulated power source

Cons: - extremely hot, literally
- it's hot enough to fry an egg in less than a minute if there is no proper cooling
- it should be on a thicker aluminum base to distribute the heat as it generates so much
- the led can destroy itself in minutes if it is not cooled properly

Other Thoughts: The extra attention to heat management of this LED takes the points away from the simple driver requirement. I haven't tried to run it any extended period of time to see how long it'll last given the extremely heat.

Bottomline: If you need a high power LED in a small package, this may be right for you, provide the heat is well managed.
