Pros: Works fine almost out of the box in both Windows and Linux (if you have the drivers properly installed).
Cons: Reception not that great. Picks up less APs than the card in my notebook. Which is the reason why I got this. Even attaching a better antenna onto this thing doesn't seem to improve it terribly much. Very expensive and for what you got it's not very good value. Also materials used seems to make it feel very cheap. Very disappointed with the hardware.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: Very weak signal pickup. For the price not very good value for the money.
Pros: Antenna Connector! No more moving to a better spot or trouble with distant APs - put the antenna where it gets a good signal instead of trying to put your laptop or desktop in an awkward place. This requires some modules and firmware, but they have been in the stock linux kernel for several years and should be in most distributions.Monitor mode works well for Kismet and wardriving.
Cons: No Master mode (can't be turned into an access point).A little chubby (it will block an adjacent USB slot on most devices), so it works best with a short extension. Can't seem to set regulatory domain, includes channels 1-13 but not 14.
Other Thoughts: I have a few key things in my mr. fixit kit and this now has a prominent place.I've already used it to solve a few problems or annoyances. With antenna seems more than sensitive enough. With a 9dbi it gets everything in the neighborhood. Without antenna is less sensitive than average, but if you have lots of wireless interference this can be a good thing.
Bottomline: Flexible use as a spare or when you need more range, Linux (or windows), or something else including special functions, it just works.
Pros: Drivers are already installed in the system if you're running XP with SP2.Easy to replace antenna to get even better range. Get about 60% signal quality from 40 feet away through 4 walls.
Cons: HEAT, wow does this thing ever heat up quick. after about 10 minutes of high bandwidth traffic this thing was hot past the point of being abble to even touch it.
Other Thoughts: Moved it to the back USB and it works fine despite the heat. Probably not very good for gaming, but works well with torrents and general browsing.
Bottomline: Neat toy, but since USB wifi sticks have come down huge in the last few months the cost isn't really worth it. you can get the same thing In Canada for around the same price and you don't have to wait for shipping times.
Pros: As with several items on Dealextreme, it is rather cheap. It works nicely. It has an detachable antenna, which may be replaced with a bigger, more sensitive one.
Cons: It seems as if the CD needs to be run first, before you plug in the USB card. I have installed this card on five machines now, (Win XP), and the only machine it failed in was the one where I forgot that. The card also becomes a little too warm to my liking.
Other Thoughts: Works well, although I would have liked a bit better sensitivity, but this should easily be improved by buying a larger external antenna from Dealextreme
Bottomline: Does what it is supposed to do.
