Pros: This is great for new computers. If you have an old printer, scanner or gamepad/joystick, this the ony way to use them. And with a very little cost. Also it has a extension cable. That is great. What can u expect more?
Cons: I don't think this got any cons. Maybe build quality can be better. But this time price will raise.
Other Thoughts: You can use it with Vista. Just download the driver. You can found drivers at forum where bottom of the page.
Bottomline: If you are looking for a RS232 to USB converter. That is what you are looking for.
Pros: - Just Works(tm). Your average up-to-date GNU/Linux distribution comes with everything you need to get started.
Cons: - Not very practical /without/ extension cable.
Other Thoughts: - Since many desktop computers today come with just one or no serial ports (9D/23D/25D) at all, having an RS232 dongle like this can save your day.- In practise you always want to use the extension cable. The dongle is quite long, and many serial cables are rather heavy. I would feel bad to attach that combination to my computer without any support.
Bottomline: If you know you need this, this gets the job done.
Pros: -Create a virtual RS232 port.-No conflicts even if you already have an RS232 on your computer-PL 2303 Chipset (actually can maybe change between batch), good for many purposes.-Free usb cable given with.-Works on almost all windows OS, and also on some Linux.-Excellent build quality.
Cons: -Many people complain about the free usb cable given with, I just understood why it doesn't works on some computers, the cable is fine for the 4 wires inside, but it's not grounded, even if it looks to.So stay with small usb devices.
Other Thoughts: -This thing is a must have for you computer toolbox (I already said this on other review, but it's because almost all items from dx have a place on your toolbox as they are very useful).
Bottomline: -Now you can take your old rs232 devices from the grave and give them another life!-Five Star everywhere for this awesome product, nothing else to say.
Pros: Works very well on windows vista, when you plug it to the usb port, windows vista looks on internet for the driver. On windows XP, the driver is in the cd.The dongle has a good built qualit, for a very small price (in Brazil, a dongle like this costs about 25~50 USD)
Cons: The cable is awful...throw it away...You should make a backup of the drivers cd that comes with it. The cd looks very cheap, I guess it is a cd-r.
Other Thoughts: Dealxtreme has the best prices, the delivery, as always, was perfect.
Bottomline: To those who (still) needs a rs232 port, but do not have it anymore (laptops), buy it!.
