Ownership verified by DX Good covering of low speed devices

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: +++Can cover a big distance.
+Plug and Play
+Completely transparent for the computer

Cons: -Only usb 1.0
-I have to and both are not manufactured so well. There is no cable tension protection on the USB connectors. Its easy enough to rip of a cable inside the connector. On was delivered with a shortcut with eventually destroyed the device.
-Voltage drop over a long distance. If the device at the other end consumes a high current (like a passive hub with several devices ) there will definetively be a voltage drop which will cause devices to malfuntion. Having a powered hub at the other end to stabilise voltage is a good idea.

Other Thoughts: Its good as it is except the speed.

Bottomline: I use it to put a HSDPA modem on the roof. Everything is linked up in a waterproof box. Only way to get Internet at my place.

Ownership verified by DX Works as advertised.

Pros: Very straightforward usage tested with an MP3 player. Currently using it for a long connection to a printer. Server is located in an inconvenient location so this solved the problem of sharing the printer with all users and having the printer in a convenient location to retrieve the printed documents.

Cons: As listed it is USB1.1
Although that really isn't a con it simply is the product specs. Just make sure you are aware of that.

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: Works great, easy and simple, tested on WinXP Pro and 2003 SBS.

Pros: Simple to operate, no drivers etc
Works over quite a distance.
Allows cheap USB devices to be extended from the PC.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: I've tested this with a webcam (with LEDS) to provide the USB data and it works well over about 40 metres, this includes my patch panel. I will be using this with the USB Digital Thermometer Dongle (sku 07003) to do some temperature monitoring. If I could only work out how to have multiple Thermometer Dongles connected, life would be easier.

Bottomline: This product could be handy for ad-hoc requirements.
And remember, DON"T PLUG INTO NETWORK SWITCHES

Pros: It beats standing in the server room disc jockeying. It's cold and noisy in there, warm and quiet at my desk. Tested over approximately 25 metres of in-wall network wiring plus two 1 metre patch cables, call it 85 feet, give or take.
Less than half the price of any equivalent product I found on eBay.
Completely transparent to the PC, so should support the box's claim of universal operating system compatibility.

Cons: Like everyone else has mentioned, you're not going to get more than usb1.1 speeds. Copying from a USB flash drive I got exactly 1 megabyte (that's a real, non-lying 1048576 byte megabyte) per second. The packaging says "Hi-speed USB certified", but in context that means something more like "won't stop high-speed devices from working by letting them think they actually can work at 480Mbps"

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: If you're looking for lightning speeds, you're not going to get them. For installing software on a remote server (using rdp/ssh/vnc for the display) it's excellent.
