Pros: + very well shaped+ good building quality+ very useful to locate things in the dark
Cons: - could be a bit cheaper- there are still brighter versions on the market
Other Thoughts: This keychain is very useful on my bunch of keys for location in the darkness. It's amazing, strange and mysterious - light all day and for more than 10 years?!I'm still knowing the facts about tritium and its characteristics but to see this thing and hold it in my hands in reality - a strange feeling!
Bottomline: Buy this mysterious and useful keychain and explore the radioactivity in your pocket!
Pros: >It’s tritium powered. That’s a radioactive isotope of Hydrogen.>It works quite well for being a novelty item.>Converts energy from beta decay of Tritium, releasing charged particles which impinge on the phosphor coated glass vial. This causes the vial to glow. Simple yet fascinating.>Halflife of 13 years. This means that the intensity of the visible light emitted will be halved after about 13 years!!Amazing to show off to friends. Now all of mine want one!!
Cons: >Pricey.>Considered as Dual Use tech in the US and hence may land you into hot water if a scintillation counter picks up a reading. Typically a Geiger Muller counter will not pick up a reading from this keychain.
Other Thoughts: It’s quite visible in the night and once your pupils dilate, you’ll be able to see that this keychain will illuminate a 3-4 sq inch area around it. It’s safe for human handling as this unit only emits beta radiation. This radiation will, in most cases, not penetrate the glass wall of the vial
Bottomline: Get one to showoff to your friends. You wont be able o stop bragging about it, I promise!!
Pros: Glows a long time with no power. Can be attached to things to find them in the dark. Not as bright as you might expect, but can be easily seen across a dark room. Small and compact, and the case seems pretty rugged.
Cons: For a tritium vial of this size, there are no cons. Don't expect to be able to read by the light of this thing, and don't expect it to be much bigger than a grain of rice. Only problem is that this item kept being backordered and it took over a month to ship.
Other Thoughts: I've found these useful for mounting near doorways in my house so I can find my way around in the dark.
Bottomline: If you're looking for a cool gadget you can mount on a keychain and have $10 to spend, go for it!
Pros: At night these things really light up pretty good making it easier to find your keys, or whatever you attached to the keyring.
Cons: The price is a bit high. I would expect 3 of these for this price. It was smaller than expectedMine has a crack after a couple of months of use (hanging on a keychain). Its still intact but I wonder when pieces of the plastic will chip off.
Other Thoughts: None
Bottomline: None, it's just fun to own, these things are really easy to see in a dark room. Makes for good conversation when someone sees you fiddling with yours.
