- Easy to install software and drivers included

- Software written by Microsoft .NET 2.0 which means you can access the dongle/readings in your own .NET software. When plugged in, the device presents itself as a serial port device (with a virtual serial port to access it.

- Driver and software programs are both in English (initial installation and error messages may be in Chinese, but installation is straight forward, see installation guide below)

- Range: -20°C to 100°C
- Accuracy: ± 0.5°C

* Note: although the sener can handle 100'C temperature, the casing will likely be damaged at that temperature. In addition, although the packaging says Hydro-thermometer, the software included does not display humidity and it is not known whether you can access the hydrometer readings by writing your own program.

Good does the job, buy it

Pros: ok built,
does the job,
easy to plug in to usb port
works with usb 1+2.0 low power draw, works with usb hub as well

Cons: cd with the program comes with it.
but you can dload it?
easy to lose lid(where did i put it?)

Other Thoughts: use if for other projects, write your own software?
anyone know if it works with other software?

Bottomline: not as usefull as i thaught, software a letdown, have to pick english every time it run...
hardware is good.....ok for projects...

Pros: -Bundled with 1m cable to keep the temperature reader away from warm computer parts.
-Google for "temper usb dll" and you can download a dll to use with your own .net vb / c applications.
-Very well priced, wish there was a ethernet version

Cons: -Software bundled is poor, it disappoints cosmetically and functionally
-Cannot be used as a permanent outdoor device

Other Thoughts: Build quality is appropriate for its use.

Bottomline: Excellent usb temperature sensor. No competitors at this price. Software provided is a disappointment.

A Bit Tricky

Pros: Accurate reading in Celsius.
Driver easily installed.

Cons: Installation for software is not in English.
Fahrenheit reading is very inaccurate so you have to do the conversion yourself.

Other Thoughts: Software is not supported so no updates.

Bottomline: Pretty much just a digital, on screen Celsius thermometer.

Usage Instructions

* Installation guide - please follow carefully:

1. Insert the included CD to install the driver and software first (they are named USBRD.EXE and SETUP.EXE). Run USBRD.EXE to install device drivers first.

2. Then, install the software via SETUP.EXE. The software will prompt you to install Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework (included on CD) if you do not already have it installed. When asked to choose installation directory/folder, you much pick something like "X (your desired driver letter):\Program Files\thermometer TEMPer\". Picking anything else will caused the program to show an error message upon start up (but it will still work despite the warning).

3. Plug in the device.

4. When you first use the device, Windows will prompt you to install device drivers. Simply select "install drivers automatically" and you're done.

5. Finally, start the main software program to see the temperature/humidity readings.
