Ownership verified by DX Alway comes in handy

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Easy to use:
- just plug it in on the IDE port of your computer and you have a SATA connection, no installation, no drivers.
- just plug it in your IDE harddisk and you can connect it on the SATA port of your computer, again without any drivers needed.

Cons: - The use I described above, is not always possible because af lak of the nessesary space. Sometimes you will need an extra IDE cable (Male-Female) to overcome this.
- There is no power cable adapter, from the normal Molex connecter to a SATA power connector. Usually a computer without SATA ports, does not have SATA power connections.

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: If you have IDE but not SATA on your computer or the other way round: if you have SATA but not IDE on your computer than you are in need of an device like this.

Pros: Great for what it is. This in my motherboard and sku.1759 on my boot IDE drive plugged into SATA 2 work transparently and in DMA mode. Seems to be a little slower maybe from handshaking though, I will time this vs direct later and post in the forum.

Cons: Does NOT do 2 devices, so case is poorly labeled. SATA 2 should be labeled SATA-IN, and SATA 1 should be labeled SATA-OUT. If it were programmed with a little more intelligence in it, it would see the drive on SATA 2 as master and change SATA 1 to IN as well for slave.. For 2 SATA devices to an IDE MB connector get 14666 or 18786 instead.

Other Thoughts: Not much, pros, cons, and bottom line about covered it. Could come in other colors and make pancakes for breakfast though.

Bottomline: Fine for what it is, but the 2 port versions like 14666 or 18786 are better for MB IDE applications for little more money, and the IDE drive to SATA converters like sku.1759 cost less and make more sense for that way. This is an ok tool kit item to have both in one, but for permanent use it doesn't make as much sense. Better off to get 3 each of the other two types and just leave them in place. This mostly makes sense for temporary hook ups, where you'll be taking it back out anyway, and then you are still arguably better off with one of the IDE/SATA to USB converters and working outside the case.

Ownership verified by DX Great product, very pleased!

Pros: Very inexpensive. Allows use of SATA drives on old motherboards. Also allows use of PATA drives on SATA only motherboard (although I did not use it for that).

Cons: Instructions not detailed. There is a sketch on back of package that shows which SATA port to use, but nothing about power connector. Also it is easy to misalign adapter in motherboard connector. (But that is also easy to correct.) Can only plug one drive into adapter, so if you need two drives to connect, get a PCI adapter with 2 SATA connectors.

Other Thoughts: Although instructions could be better, product is really quite good for the price. To use an SATA drive with an IDE motherboard, use the included molex power connector, and watch the alignment of the adapter in the motherboard IDE connector.

Bottomline: Really pleased with my purchase!!

Pros: -very useful product. I use it for a IDE DVD burner in my new PC. I didn't want to sacrifice airflow with unsightly IDE ribbons in my new PC, but didn't want to spend a lot on a new SATA burner.
-pretty decent price. The same product at a retail store is easily $25-35

Cons: -would be nice if it didn't need extra power from a floppy drive plug, but not much can be done about that, it needs to get power somewhere.
-the unit itself protrudes quite a bit from the back of my dvd drive, but its not that big of an issue

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: It does what it's designed to do :)
