Pros: - Works as Intended- Solid enough even though its light weight construction.- Lock saves accidental opening and potential loss of data.- disk mates well with the connectors
Cons: - Must take care with handling because of the light weight construction.- No fan and no mounting to allow fan.- Led useless unless one has controller that has a connector for a led.
Other Thoughts: - could make a USB Storage device with swappable drives if one does not have room in the computer.- If your SATA controller allows HOT SWAP, then this unit will allow you to HOT SWAP your disks, otherwise when you remove a disk make sure you do not have any programs open etc, otherwise data will be lost from any open files on the disk.
Bottomline: If you need a caddy-less removable drive then this unit will give you excellent value. (quality/price)
Pros: Lets you hotswap a standard SATA 3.5" Harddrive in and get it up in My Computer
Cons: The LED is uselessMust be on its own power cable, not shared with a DVD Burner/Fancontrollerthe door does not allways lock if you push it
Other Thoughts: Made my DVD Burner go cracy, when they where on the same power cableBesure your SATA Controller is in AHCI modeyou might want to reinstall to get the driver property installed (F6 on windows XP install and install it, the driver is called something like RAID/AHCI compatible driverincluded screws is a nice touch
Bottomline: Exellent build quality
Pros: - does it's job well- working bay lock (see cons)- activity LED with 2-pin connector on long cable- removing the activity LED doesn't change from panel look at all.- attempt to isolate outer mount from vibrations of inner cage (with HDD) with silicon rubber spacers- lots of free space around the disk allows easy air movement- no fan
Cons: - no fan- activity LED doesn't hold fast in its seating- vibration isolation doesn't work that well, but it's OK for it's class.- when you "click open" the bay door, the HDD immediately moves out on it's own - it doesn't hold in the back SATA connector.- when you lock the bay and attempt to open it, it will "click open", but fortunately neither the door nor the disk really moves out, so it remains on-line.- no hot plug safeguarding circuits to avoid momentary current surges
Other Thoughts: - you need to plug the LED cable somewhere to make it work. I've easily removed the LED with its cable altogether so that it doesn't add on the cable mess in my case- if you plan to do some hotplugging, I recommend you plug this adapter on a cable that's not not loaded much, preferably without any other HDD. Current surge caused by hot-plugging new HDD could cause voltage drop that's not tolerable for the other HDD.
Bottomline: Take it if you need it. The price is very good for this class.3 HDD drawers in 2x5.25" cage would be nicer, but at least you get more effective cooling this way.
