Pros: Very inexpensive. Same form-factor as the OEM model, which fits well in the hand.
Cons: Button feels cheap -- it feels like a pair of reed switches, and doesn't have a comforting 'snap' of a buckling spring microswitch. The camera plug has no snap to keep it plugged in, so it can and does fall out of the camera. Compare this with the Nikon-specific models.
Other Thoughts: I can't see actually using this for photos, but I might just cut off the camera-end of the cable and use it as a trigger for some other project. At the price, you can afford to do that. Maybe trivia buzzers?
Bottomline: Save your money and get the wireless version (DX SKU 16199) instead. You will be MUCH happier.
Pros: Does everything the OEM Canon model does at a fraction of the price. Solidly put together, plugs in securely.
Cons: Not very good tactile feedback on half-press. It lost a point on build quality and ease of use for this. Also there is no latch on the plug, and I knocked off another point on build quality for that.
Other Thoughts:
Bottomline: I've had a few of these generic remote shutters, but seem to always lose them. This one is more solid feeling than most I've used, but I've also used some with some half-press feedback, which is much easier to use.
Pros: Full remote functionality AF+ Trigger + Bulb. Price: comparable Canon is $49. Solid. Decent length cable so you won't tug on the fittings. Plug fits nicely in the camera. English user manual.
Cons: Strain reliefs are a bit stiff so won't do much good, but if your pulling that hard on them you've likely moved your camera and/or tripod.
Other Thoughts: If you need a wired remote for your 30D you won't do much, if any, better buying the Canon model. But you certainly will be throwing away at least $30 bucks you could be using on a new filter or ...
Bottomline: If you've a 30D get it.
