Ownership verified by DX Small handy and versatile reader!
Posted by matrix-neo on 4/9/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: -cheapest sdhc compatible card reader-thats why i chose this one!
-quite small and slim, about half the size of my last one
-apart from usual cards also does the smaller ones, ie microSD, miniSD etc
-usb2 compatible, see below
-blue led lights when accessing card

Cons: usb1.1/2 compatible, works fine but seems to be usb1.1 speeds, ~1mb/s
also some of the pins in cf slot have been loosened and pulled forward, still works but have to be gentle when changing card(label down)

Other Thoughts: great reader, don't need those tiny sd card adapters anymore!

Bottomline: A very worthwhile addition to any pc freak/gadget collection everywhere, very competitive and cheap with others especially when you factor in the shipping for anywhere in the worldwide destinations is included for free!

Ownership verified by DX Nice Card Reader

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: - small for a multicardreader
- not a bad design
- usb 2.0
- SDHC
- PRICE!!!
- Good packaging
- comes with mini usb wire
- has a light to indicate its plugged in

Cons: - cheap built.. mine looks like it was falling apart at the midline. there was a huge gap

Other Thoughts: - cheapest sdhc with multiple cards
- cards fit in the slots nicely
- a bit of chrome to twist up the plain design but in the picture it shows the chrome part black... not a big deal or anything, just a heads up of what it actually looks like

Bottomline: get it if you don't care about quality and just need something cheap that supports SDHC

Ownership verified by DX Decent, but overheats.

Ease of Use: starstarstarstar

Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros: Excellent reader. Supports my SDHC and CF cards without any problems.

Cons: The unit gets extremely hot when plugged in. One instance it disppeared from my desktop when it overheated and it was almost too hot to touch.

Other Thoughts: The overheating is a big concern. It's good enough for quick transfer of files, but don't rely on it being connected all the time. You don't want to fry your USB port (or set your desk on fire) because of it.

Bottomline: Cheap. Works. But overheating is a big problem. Makes me want to consider buying a more reputable product.

You get what you pay for.

Pros: Tiny Card Reader, its smaller than a cigarette box, very thin, and very fast (USB 2.0)
easy to use

Cons: Short USB Cable, but i use my own usb cable to solve this problem.

and can handle only one card at a time.. but this is not a big problem.

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: Can handle almost every card on the market, and the best - its reads TransFlash (micro-SD)
cards directly! very useful !
