extend your internal sata port to esata device

Pros: If you need to extend your internal sata port to an esata device like a 2.5/3.5 sata external HD docking station, then it's a must for you.  Cable is long enough for even ATX boards.   The greatest benefit is that you dont downgrade your speed.
 
Cons: Only 1 port instead of 2 (a similar 2 port product with shorter sata cables is available on this website though)   Since it only extends one sata port (no complicated circuitry), it probably should cost a little less than it does
 
Other Thoughts: Note:  It just extends your sata port.   It doesnt provide sata/esata if your motherboard doesnt have an available sata port.
 
Bottomline: If you want to connect esata device to you desktop, one of these is a must
Dont settle for USB2 connection

Pros: I bought this mostly as filler for an empty expansion slot, and never ended up using it.
That said, build quality seems fine, and installation is straightforward.
 
Cons: The SATA cable that comes out of the back of it could do with a few more inches of length. It's long _enough_ to reach the SATA slots on my motherboard, but it's too tight for me to be comfortable.
 
Other Thoughts: The packaging is pretty funny -- it has a picture of an early-90s Macintosh PC with the Windows XP logo being displayed on the monitor's screen.
 
Bottomline: If you need an eSATA port and have a slot available, I don't see what should stop you from buying this.
