4/15/2006:This green laser pointer is no joke, and you should use it seriously. No matter what objects you are pointing at, you will see a solid green laser point on it. Its laser will shoot through any transparent or almost transparent object and carry on its way. It's also stunning to see the actual green laser beam beam at night. Its only trade-off is the relative higher cost and the green laser related questions coming from your friends, family, classmates, co-workers (trust me on that one). Can't wait to try out the forbidden 10mW, 20mW and 30mW.11/1/2006:The new 10mW model's green dot is significantly brighter and bigger than that of our original 5mw model's. Its beam is a lot more visible too.
Previously we've seen a common spillage problem around the 10mw's dot. The manufacturer claims that this is due to imperfections or dirt residues on the glass lens and cleaning the glass with lens cloth helps eliminating spillage.
(update) We now ask the manufacturer to provide perfect products and lens. We also hand test these units to make sure they are perfect before shipping. So the spillage problem should be resolved for shipment from now onwards.
(another update) I forgot to post that starting a while ago the manufacturer has been putting in some pretty good quality AAA batteries in the gift boxes together with the laser. And that's really convenient as you can now start beaming things right out of the box.
(notice about potential laser hazard) As discussed by Meduza and a few other fellows at our forums, this laser does not come with an IR filter. So for safety you should wear a protective glass when using the pointer.
Pros: - comes with batteries so you can start playing as soon as you get the device :-)- efficient !
Cons: - the light takes about 30s to get full strength. At first, one does not find the dot, then it comes, then it gets brighter, then it blinds you :-) Be careful, it's more than a toy.
Other Thoughts: If you're a businessman doing presentations with projectors, nobody will miss the powerful green dot. It takes a while to get full strength but it is very visible in high-luminosity environment. It is already a weapon of mass conviction (in a room full of salesmen), there is no need of a stronger laser (20mW or more wouldn't add much and are more dangerous).
Bottomline: get it and conquer the world :-)
Pros: Great laser for star-gazing and funWILL pop balloons from close distance (but I may have gotten lucky)Bright beam at nightGood battery lifeFriends are impressed by greenNice carrying case came with it, and batteries
Cons: Button sometimes loses alignmentCan be dangerous to eyes (no IR filter)Needs to warm up sometimes before use
Other Thoughts: Be careful where you point it, it is extremely bright
Bottomline: A great bargain deal for only 20 dollars, worth every penny so far; I highly recommend it to any customer
Pros: The dot is very bright inside lighted rooms during the daytime and is also quite bright outside if used before/after sunrise. At night it's an amazing sight to see the beam, which, on this model, is clearly visible from all angles. The user as well as any other onlookers will be able to easily see a vibrant green beam. The beam is MUCH more noticeable than the 5mW model and can even be seen in lighted rooms indoors (barely, but it's visible).
Cons: Chews through AAA batteries very quickly. Although it won't completely kill the batteries quickly, it will kill them enough that you'll observe a noticeable drop in brightness. Also, the power of the laser is enough to be dangerous if it directly hits someone in the eyes, so be responsible when using it. The button exhibits a bit of play, but it's nothing too bad.
Other Thoughts: Works well with rechargeable 1.2v batteries without a noticeable drop in brightness.
Bottomline: A fun laser that'll keep you occupied and is great to show off to friends.
Pros: -Cheap! for $20 US. you can't beat it-Awesome! you can see the lazer! great for astronomy-It's green, makes your friends envy you-It's over all pretty sweet and a great buy-Comes with a sweet case!
Cons: -no filter, don't shine that bad boy in-doors or on anything in front of you, your eyes start to feel a little weird. Definitely a bad thing!-Could potentially be fined in the US for it, i heard something about using it to blind airplane pilots, but uhh, i haven't gotten in any trouble yet.-could potentially be dangerous if not used wisely and responsibly.
Other Thoughts: NOT A TOY!!! however it's great fun to use to look at stars. I love it, when i took it out of the box and shown it the first time outside, i was like a little kid again! it's a great little tool.
Bottomline: Buy it. If you like astronomy, the stars, or even lazers, it's the greatest thing you can get for the price.
