Static-Release Wrist Strap

Pros:

This is truly a must-have gadget for everyone who dis/assembles computers.
I have once before fried my RAM chip but after I bought this, there has been no problems!
Lenght is OK. If you need to take a component out of you're case, you can easily lay it on the table, and still have this around your wrist.
This locks nicely around your wrist. I've had experience with more expensive units, that have been very loose.

Maybe more colors but who cares what this looks like, if it just does the job!

Cheap, has a nice length and fits your hand well.

Pros:

The crocodile clip can be removed, revealing a simple banana jack, which means that you can also plug the wire in other grounds. I guess you can also plug it in sources of electricity, effectively electrocuting the wearer of the wrist strap, depending on the voltage and amps.

Cons:

None whatsoever!

Other Thoughts:

I suppose different colors would be nice.

Bottomline:

A must when you work a lot on the insides of computers; nothing is as annoying as replacing an entire motherboard because you shocked it without noticing.

for the price you pay on this is well worth your time if you ever have to work on a computer. This could be the difference between having a working pc after your done or not. With out this you might make things worse.

Pros:

A simple anti-static wrist strap that is a cut above the rest, both in terms of price and quality. Many anti-static wrist straps have a velcro-type band that is a pain to secure, but this one is elastic (and adjustable) so it slips right on. Most importantly, since it is elastic it insures that the metal contact is always pressed against your skin, allowing optimum static discharge from your body.

Cons:

The band is a little small even at its loosest setting, but I have a slender build so it isn't a problem for me. Still, if you are big boned it might be a problem.

Other Thoughts:

Don't be an idiot and skimp out a few bucks and a few seconds of your time ignoring the dangers of ESD because you WILL eventually find yourself in a position where you just fried hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars of equipment because you were cheap and lazy.

Bottomline:

If you work on computers or other static-sensitive electronics, you NEED to have one of these.

It is really difficult to say a Pro about this item. You can get the exact same wire in the exact same package for 8 cents less if you buy #20440.

Cons:

The wire is quite thin and is pretty short as well. You can get the exact same wire which is #20440 which is slightly cheaper. BUT it is by far the best deal to get the one with the much heavier wire and much longer wire for only $1 more - #15430.

Other Thoughts:

BUT it is well worth paying $1.05 more and get 15430. It is much higher quality, much longer wire and heavier gauge wire.

Pros:

Inexpensive but essential tool for working on sensitive electronics. Thick, soft elastic band with clamp adjuster.

Cons:

Stretchiness of elastic is only so-so. Probably won't bother most people but I have big hands and slim wrists.

Other Thoughts:

I don't usually use an anti-static band even when handling memory or other sensitive devices, but there are times (especially winter when the weather is dry) when the rituals of avoiding static damage (keeping one hand on the chassis etc.) are tedious and it's easier to just wear a strap.

Bottomline:

You don't need a wrist strap to handle sensitive devices if you know other ways to avoid static, but unless you are an engineer who really understands the problem AND never forgets to deal with it, just wear a strap. It's cheap and reliable.

I have been tinkering with electrical and electronic products for quite some time.
I am lucky that, in all that time working without an 'static-release strap.
Though I've been careful during that time and have taken all the necessary precautions, I realize that I've been very lucky.
I could have caused some damage --- without realizing it.

Great product at a great price.
If you do any tinkering at all on your computer, you reallly should buy one --- for your safety as well as your piece-of-mind.

+ The alligator clip is strong and stubborn enough to hold onto anything

I used this to build my current pc and i haven't bumped into any problems with it at all, no matter how much I poked around in there.

It does what it supposed to do but i don't know if i can trust this product fully just yet, i have yet to test if the strap does discharge and lead electricity, but i assume it does since I've detected no problems when assembling a whole PC from scratch. Buy it!

-I had to adjust the wrist band a bit to make it tighter, because my wrist are a bit thin.
-I never really used a static-release wrist band when working on electronics because I thought it wasn't necessary.
-At the local electronics store they sell these devices for about 5 time the price they sell them here.

-If you are working with electronics and don't want the thing you are working on to break, wear this so you don't store static electricity.

Pros:

Alligator clip is connected with a banana plug!, overall quality is OK if you factor the price. The measured resistance was within specs in my case.

Cons:

Cable a bit too small, band a bit on the small side - although it _does_ have to press onto your wrist for proper contact. I suspect the cable will eventually sever under stress, since the build quality is not the best.

Other Thoughts:

Measure your wrist strap (from clip to clip) using the ohms range of your DMM every once in a while, if it's off by 10% discard it.
You wouldn't be able to use it professionally anyway, since it's not allowed in a real work environment. (Under 1Mohm becomes dangerous for you, over 1Mohm it's simply not effective enough for most situations)

Bottomline:

Buy them in bulk, they're the same ones they're selling at most places at 10 times the price.

Electrostatic discharges are actually dangerous for electronic circuits. With this wrist strap is very easy and cheap to avoid them.

Pros:

Good fit - my arm/hand is large and there's no problem, and the size is adjustable. The cord is plenty long and it clips on the wrist band with a button for easy removal if you've got to move. The aligator clip's spring is very strong

Cons:

The plastic sheathing on the wire seems relatively cheap and I'm somewhat curious about the strength/gauge of the wire itself. It seems like it's fragile,but it hasn't broken yet.

Bottomline:

If you're working with electronics you really should be grounded. I've gotten away with it lots of times before but I always feel nervous. For the price this is a good insurance policy, and you can just keep it in your toolkit or pocket for when needed.

Does exactly what it promises. No complaints about build quality. Strap fits my wrist perfectly. Thanks to user "zmeios" for pointing out that the crocodile clip is connected to a banana plug, as I wouldn't have realised otherwise.

None - although some reviewers say that the length could be longer, for me it was OK.

Continuity checked out fine for me (see posting from user "spicoli"). I've never bothered to use a wrist strap when installing PC peripherals, but for years I've soldered electronic components with a total disregard for ESD warnings. Now I can do "the right thing".

Extraordinarily good value. If you work with static-sensitive devices, there's absolutely no reason not to have one of these.

The adjustable elastic wrist strap is a bit short, but it has to be tight because you want to have the best contact possible between your wrist and the small metal plate that is on the inside of the plastic buckle.

A must if you repair computers or just have to install a new hard drive or additionnal memory module and don't want to blow the whole thing while doing it! The cable is held in place with a snap button so it can probably be replaced easily if it brakes off.

The band size is tiny! I expected something like a wiimote fit, but this is just tiny! I don't have big wrists, but it was very tight fit, other people couldn't fit it because the elastic band is just very short.
Length of the wire is ok, but it might be in the way because it's not very long. You are always unclipping yourself, such in a way you will just leave it off after 10 minutes.

Only good if you have small wrists!

Every PC tech needs one.
It does what every other strap does.
It's not even 2 bucks!
Build quality is sturdy. The elastic strap seems strong enough to withstand a lot of usage abuse and the plastic latch also seems strong for that price.
It serves it purpose well by preventing electrostatic current from damaging the electronic parts being handled.
It also has a crocodile clip which can be removed from the end connector.
Metallic plate which is in contact with the skin won't rust easily with perspiration.

It's pretty small doesn't fit big european wrists (Probably Fits well for asians).
Makes my wrists ichy. Crocodile crip seems fragile.

Don't listen your friends, those say: "i've opened my computer case thousand times and nothing happened". Read some about static electricity and use ESD wrist strap!.

Get this if you touch any sensitive (and expensive) electrical parts.

If you've ever worked on your PC (even just adding an internal CD drive) without static protection you will know the worry that you will fry something just by touching it - with this simply connect yourself to a ground point and poke around until you are bored!

Cons:

Cord not massively long, but put your work bench next to a ground point and it is fine.

Tips to fint ground points in normal house:
In UK central heating radiators, metal piping and gas piping all should be grounded.
Easiest is prob to connect this to a radiator

Again much cheaper than replacing a burnt out PC part (and wasting hours trying to find it!) also great if you are messing with consoles or other such electronics.

A very cheap piece of kit that will protect electrial items in your computer etc from being broken if you happen to be statically charged.

As I havent used the wrist strap yet, I dont have any problems with it. And I really doubt there will be any problems with it, as it seems to be well built & havent noticed any breaks along the coil, the wrist strap or on the popper connection between the strap and coil.

This is very useful when you have to open an electronic device for repairing. It avoids the risk of damaging any integrated circuit due to static electricity.
The wire can be separated from the strap just with a clip, giving freedom of movement if you have to leave the place for a moment.
A clamp is included for easily connecting the wire to any grounded metal surface, and it can be removed leaving a single pin connector just in case you have a professional workbench.

Cons:

The strap itself is a bit short, but as it is elastic it fits perfectly around the wrist.

Some more discreet colour should be nicer, but as in fact this is a security device I think it must have an eye-catching colour like this.
