Ownership verified by DX it's uh... pretty.
Posted by flashin on 12/14/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

well... it is pretty!
it looks a thousand times better in your hand than in the pictures
the fit and finish are excellent
high polish chrome bezel,
screw on stainless back with a window,
some of the screws in the back of the movement are blue.
sounds tacky until you see it, nice touch.
the white face with the heart cut outs gives it a very female girly look,
the face has little hearts all over it too.
as you can see in the pictures it has bright blue hands. they look really sharp, and make it easy to see.
some of these cut out watches can be hard to tell time when the hands blend in with the mechanism.
the steel bracelet is adjustable at the buckle with pins, and 6 links can be removed from the bracelet.
so it should fit just about anyone.
the daybird brand seems to be of very good quality.
more than expected from an $18 watch.

Cons:

to be a watch decorated "mostly" for females,
it's a little on the large size,
about 38mm accross, 12mm thick.
although i've seen them bigger at the mall for a lot more money, and without the coolness of a mechanical automatic.
the bracelet is a little hard to adjust, until you figure it out.
it's easier if it taken off the watch.
that reduces the risk of scratching and maybe breakin' the glass.
it's also a little pinchy,
but that's with my hairy arm,
shouldn't be a problem for lady's though.
(don't get the wrong idea... i got it for my girlfriend... OK!)

Other Thoughts:

these would be nice with the brass/gold movements too.
leather bands would also be very nice.
it's easy to change the bracelet to a leather band, so it's not that big of an issue to buy it that way from DX.

Bottomline:

very nice watch, great price, and a great build.
i also got the black one.
both arrived intact and working fine.
extra bubble wrap can be requested.

Ownership verified by DX very small, very cool.
Posted by flashin on 12/5/2008
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: less than 1 day

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros:

it is small.
very lightweight, you can hang it on your t-shirt collar and forget it's there.
it has a pocket clip that can be removed.
steel liner backbone frame has steel handle scales.
inner frame mechanism is hinged in the middle with a pivot plate at the rear, and one to the blade at the front, along with the blade pivot in the front of the backbone.
when opened it clicks locked until you squeeze the rear of the knife together it unlocks, and will bring the blade all the way to the closed position if squeezed to hard.
it's put together almost entirely with torx screws. except for the 3 pivot points of the mechanism, they are pinned.
it is a suprisingly solid build, dispite it's flemsy look.
it's held shut, and helped open by a coiled spring at the rear.
the blade is relatively sharp, i could shave hair on my hand, but it could use a few trips on a steel, or a good wetstone.
it's at least a 400 series stainless that's painted. the paint can scratch but so far appears to be pretty durable.
can be opened/closed just by squeezin' the rear, but ya gotta use caution to not cut yourself when closing. it'll bite you if your not careful.
the DX price is great. $5 for a knife mechanism i've never seen before.
you won't see one at that price if you see one at all.

Cons:

none. it's a neat little knife with a very unique mechanism.

Other Thoughts:

well i made a tool of myself gloating that i knew a secret about the knife.....
turns out it's not broke in enough yet and wasn't opening all the way to the locked position. DUH!
i still think it's a very slick design.

Bottomline:

can be a little tricky to operate this small one. it is tiny.
i'm gonna get the bigger versions too. it's just too cool to not get the others.

Ownership verified by DX nifty
Posted by flashin on 11/23/2008
Involvement: Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros:

pretty cool.
i've seen these in other catalogs and websites for $30 to $40.
so of coarse DX beats their prices by a mile.
to use it, just plug it in the 12v socket in your car/truck, or a 110v house plug-in adapter. tune the radio and modulator to the same frequency. lower frequencies are more available, but i have noticed the higher freq sound better.(?)
those freq are usually busier and driving around will result in interference. it's easy to change it though.
the build quality is ok.
don't use it as a hammer.
it sounds really good, and you can change the eq setting, normal sounds best to me. and it is stereo.
it remebers last song # but not it's place. that's better than starting over at the begining ever time.
the display is bright and displays type of media input device, freq, and mp3 title. it even displays hello when you plug it in, for that warm fuzzy feelin'.
the remote is fully functional, but you can do almost everything without it.
(try not to lose it)
has three inputs for media.
sd, flash, and direct input from ipd/mp3.
allows you to put digital music just about anywhere there's an fm reciever.

Cons:

it doesn't read wma files. it says it does, but it doesn't. i nearly beat my head into a tree trying to figure it out.
with the help of the DX forum, i found out it HAS to be MP3 files. everything i had was wma. you gotta convert it.
if you loose the remote, you can't change the eq, and you have to push the button all the way through to the song you want. a pain when you have 600 songs on a flashdrive. you could have several flashdrives with only certain types of music on each one. THAT is going ten steps backward after taking one forward. again, don't lose the remote!!
with the remote you put in the # of the song you want.
the modulator might be a little delicate, but like i said, it's not a hammer. when it's plugged in the light from the display shows through the thin plastic outer shell.
i don't think it would shine through the black version.
you can't see the display when your using it in a car, even worse in a truck. once you get used to the functions, you don't have to look at the display. range is about 3ft max for the remote, you gotta be close. the range from the modulator to the radio is about 15ft. wich is o.k. it's for a car.
gets hot when used with a house hold adapter. could be adapters fault though.
would be nice if it had an on off switch. some cars have the power at the 12v socket turn off with the key, so you can leave it plugged in all the time.
mine are constant 12v all the time, so i have unplug it. on a real cold night it would be enough to drain my battery if i left it on.... needs on/off feature.

Other Thoughts:

i got a 110v to 12v adapter to use in the house, barn, shed, whatever. pretty cool to hear music you would never hear on the radio anyway coming out of the speakers on an old radio. kinda puts new life in those old relics. best part is using it in my old beater truck that only has am/fm/cb.
i know there is a world of better technology out there, but i like to keep the old stuff alive. i don't know if it was designed with that in mind, but i use it that way. it's cool.

Bottomline:

great toy as long as you use mp3 and not wma files.
if wma's work in yours, congrats.
i plan on buying more of these.
i know some others that will be just as easily amused as i am with it.

Ownership verified by DX surprising quality
Posted by flashin on 11/15/2008
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: less than 1 day

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

all the reviews are accurate. this is a very well made knife. of coarse the DX price is always unbelieveabley low.
the blade is a tanto style, in what is probably 440 stainless steel. that design provides a very tough point. i see more and more military issued knives with this blade. it's very effective in penatrating thin metal, like car door steel for example. i'm not suggesting you go around punching holes in car doors, but in an emergancy sitiation it's very effective. it came pretty sharp right out of the box.. sharp enough to shave the hair off the back of my hand. i think it has a teflon coating on the blade instead of just paint. but it does have teflon washers as bearings at the folding joint. well oiled too.
it has stainless liners and the ever popular liner lock mehcanism that's now found in the majority of locking knives. with the addition of the thumb stud on the blade it makes one hand operation possible, and easy.
the handle/scales are aluminum. the checkering on the grip is machined into the handle, and not a sticker like some knives i've seen. the coating has a rough texture for grip, so it's not just paint. the liners form a place for a lanyard to be attatched.
there is a pocket clip that can be removed, but i find it more useful than the pouch it came in.
the build tolerances are very tight, and the blade clicks into place with a positive "CLICK".
the whole thing is held together with torx screws, (except for the pivot, it's an allen head) so it can be completely disassembled for cleaning.
it's a medium sized knife(to me) that's good for edc.
the overall finish is really good, and it just looks cool.

Cons:

none.
expect normal wear and tear of the "painted" surfaces, but mechanically it should last a LONG time.

Other Thoughts:

not exactly sure of the blade steel's material. it has a gerber(?) trademark painted on the blade but there is no tang stamp. it's just a guess that it's 440.
don't know if it's a genuine gerber or not...... don't really care, it's a nice knife with or without the name.

Bottomline:

great knife, cool design, good build quality, and priced right. i'm buying more as gifts, and back ups to have.
the price and product are a lot better than knives i've seen and ordered from the "discount knife catalog" i get in the mail.

Ownership verified by DX so simple
Posted by flashin on 10/29/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

this thing is so simple, yet without it there is no way i could do something as complex as converting cassette tape recordings into digital format.
it so easy, just plug it in. it seems to be built strong enough to last a long time, and it's just the right length to reach around to the back of my pc.
it's extremely useful to me. i originally got it just to convert my Grampaws music from cassette to digital, then i realized i can convert all those old tapes i have, that i can't find on cd. and my (V8) car engine recordings too. anything on tape. (woo hoo)
anything played through a headphone jack can be saved on the pc, digital or not, using this simple little cable.
it transmits media perfectly.

Cons:

NONE

Other Thoughts:

originaly i bought this, as a recomendation from another DX customer, to transfer cassette recordings that are of my Grampaws group from the 1940's.
the recordings were on a vynyl record, then recorded to reel to reel tape. in the 1970's they made their way to cassette tape. i have a copy, of a copy, of a copy.. ect.
with this little cable, i can play this on an old sony walkman cassette player,(i have a survivor), on to my pc, and into a program i downloaded from the net. from there i can clean up the tracks and burn it onto cd's. COOL.
i know it's not the latest in hi tech gear, or gadgets, but it's allowing me to bring music literally from the "stone age" into at least 1990's technology. i can mp3 it, and make cd copies for the rest of the family.... for a price.. maybe.
all that for a little simple $1.60 cable.

Bottomline:

if you need a dual 3.5mm jack ended cable. here it is. record anything to your pc from an outside sorce.
it would have cost me a lot more than $1.60 to have someone convert that tape for me. i can do it myself now.
that's very cool to me.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

Love it. it's huge, but impressive.
runs smooth, and accuratley.
screw on stainless back with window.
the decorative dials look expensive and busy, but it just simply tells time.
the strap/band is padded leather with "gator" or lizard texture. looks, smells, and feels like leather. big watch, but fits my small wrist nicely, no extra holes punched in the band.
very nice finish on case. stainless steel? chrome plated "metal"? probably ???
love it !!!

Cons:

none with the watch at all, but one. the rear window is prone to breaking during shipping. wich makes this more of a shipping problem. DX is considering putting these in little boxes, the way flashlights are pakaged. i hope so. mine was broken, but i fixed it myself instead of sending it back. DX customer service was great. if you have a problem, give them a chance to fix it.

Other Thoughts:

it's a great watch. there are a lot of nice watches on DX. i plan to buy more. i hope they start using boxes soon.

Bottomline:

you can get one of these automatics for what a cheap quartz would cost in the store. they both will tell time, but the auto will be a lot more interesting.

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

hey, these are great.
the price is very low for the quality.
they sound really good in my pc, and pretty good in my LG chocolate, with mp3.
sound is isolated well when you use the correct ear gasket for your ears.
it has a very good bass thump. keep in mind these are $4 earbuds i am talkin' about, not $20 or $30.
the wires are covered with a braided nylon(?) sleeve over all.
there are three sets of earpieces, so one of 'em should fit.
they will impress "regular folks" too, so they will be great as gifts. even music snobs will like these , at least as a decent backup set for their more expensive ones.
the sound is very loud and clear.

Cons:

none too big.
they transmit a lot of bumping noise from the cables to the earbud. but it is not electrical and drowns out when music, or whatever, starts.
i said the sound is pretty good in my LG choc., but really good in my pc. the power from the pc is more consistant, but in my choc, like most mp3 players, the sound level will drop a little because of the power supply, and the unit trying to save as much energy as possible.
also if i campare these to the ones that came with the LG choc., they're not as good.
the ones that came with my choc. are very high quality. this phone was given to me,(almost thrown away), and all i use it for is the mp3. i would hate to buy the same earphones frome LG, if i can still get them, i'm guessing the cost to be $50 to $75. but i'm not to sure 'cause i ain't found them yet.
when compared to really expensive ones, they do have a slight "echo in a bucket" sound. it's not that bad, but it is there.

Other Thoughts:

these are very good general use earbuds. but are capable of playing really good music in clear stereo sound.

Bottomline:

they are worth all 438 pennies. i bought two sets, and will probably order a few more soon. they are good replacements for a lot of devices. they have made some of my cheaper junky devices sound much better than i thought they could.
read the other reviews, most are very accurate. they're very good earbuds.

Ownership verified by DX twice the tunes.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

this thing is pretty cool.
it does what it's suppossed to do, split sound.
plug in 'n go, it's that easy.
the plugs fit snug, and "snap in" positively.
seems to be durable and strong, well built.
sound is split into stereo on both sides, and is distributed equaly between headsets.
makes it easier to share your music, or whatever, with someone privately.
can be used with headset and speakers at the same time (don't know why anyone would do that, but you can), or run two sets of speakers together and spread out the sound,(great for around a campfire)giving it a somewhat surrounding effect, when used with a battery powered amplifier.
i didn't notice any sound quality issues.
the price is really great. you cannot buy this for under $10 or $15 in my area.

Cons:

none really.
there is only the slightest, faintest, teeny tiny bit of sound volume drop when adding the second headset, but that is to be expected from a device that cost a DOLLAR FIFTY SIX.

Other Thoughts:

works great with all the headsets i have, and i tried them all on this. the good ones sound good, and the crappy ones are still crappy. no change in headset quality.

Bottomline:

nice to have so i can share my tunes with my girlfriend. now we will fight over control of the t.v. remote at home, and mp3 player everywhere else.

Ownership verified by DX very nice
Posted by flashin on 10/15/2008
Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

this is a very nice magnifier. it is built very solidly. i don't know if it is an actual 20x magnifier, but it is strong. the lense on both of mine are made of one solid piece of glass, and not multiple lenses. this makes it very durable. it can be taken apart to clean or repair. the lense is held in place with a threaded ring similar to what you might find in a watch, or flashlight. the part that pivots is aluminum. the body is made of... well i think it is chrome plated brass. it has some heft for it's size. there is a spot for a lanyard. it needs it too because it's very small and could be lost if it's not tied to something. one of the best things about this loupe is it's unbelievable price, under $3/free shipping. it comes in a plastic display box with a foam insert so it should arrive safely. the other nice thing about it is the clearness of the lense. minute details show up very clear. that's what it's supposed to do.

Cons:

very small and easy to lose. sometimes it is difficult to get enough light in the area to be able to see. you have to hold it close to your eye and that tends to block light. that's to be expected with any handheld loupe this small. other than some grinder marks that were chromed over, that do not effect it's function, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Other Thoughts:

you will find yourself lookin' for things to magnify (unless of coarse you already own a jewelers loupe and the coolness has worn off). it's great for inspecting small work, and identifying anything that's small and hard to see. use it in series with a larger magnifier to increase it's power. i was able to read identifying marks on an old double barrel shotgun that were probably worn off before i was born.... long time ago. it works very well.

Bottomline:

unless i lose it, i should not have to replace this particular loupe. i bought two so i'd have a spare. both are of equal quality. it's a good buy.

Ownership verified by DX pretty good output but tricky to use
Posted by flashin on 10/6/2008
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros:

has a pretty good boost for 1.5v aa powered lights.(RC-G2) once i got it on high it was noticeably brighter.(i'm still using the P-2, but have a P-4 to swap in) the lower light levels are nice to have. they extend battery life. sometimes the single mode lights are way to bright for some situations and will blind you when using it for upclose work. the lower modes will save your night vision. it does seem to have memory so you can turn it back on in the same mode. the strobe features are ok. they're supposed to be good for disorienting an attacker. the price is very good. it can give your older cree/ssc flashlight a whole new life.

Cons:

ground wire was broke off when i got it. pokin' around with a volt meter with it hooked to a battery i was able to find where to solder it back on. i looked at the pictures here on DX to get an idea where it should go. found it, and it works. the modes can be a little tricky. i'm not sure i have found all 20 modes yet. if you use this with a reverse clicker switch, i can see it possibly failing prematurely due to all the button pushin'. i think one of the strobes is a little too fast. try not to look at it when it's on strobe 'cause it can make you a little dizzy. (not really, but it does get you're attention)
when it was on high i could hear a very slight squeal. it's not that loud to me, but my dog really noticed it. it didn't spook her or hurt her ears but she noticed it. so if you're usin' it around wild life, or critters that spook easy, you might want to be cautious and keep it on lower modes. might have to trim it a little to get it to fit a pill, but thats to be expected with most drivers.

Other Thoughts:

i don't really see how all those modes are usefull. if you can figure it out maybe it is. i'm never sure exactly what mode it's in. just when i thought i had it on high, i screw around with it and find a higher mode. i've seen some instructions on a post here that linked me to CPF. but i haven't found the right combination to work for me. when i do find a high mode, it really cooks. i'm afraid i might damage the P-2 if i run it that high for very long. should definately be used with at least a cree P-4, or Q-5. i think the ssc P-4 will benifit from the high settings of this driver too.
using a forward clicker switch makes it a little easier, and silent because of the momentary contact feature of forward clickers. when you find the mode you want, click it on with one click instead of click click click click click........ it's annoying.
not good for the luxeon 1 watt i had. it turned it very blue on higher modes.
way overdriven, got hot, probably damaged it sevierely. no big deal, it's ONLY a luxeon.

Bottomline:

output on high is pretty good, and the option for different levels of light can be usefull, but i think more than 4 or 5 modes is just too much to try to figure out. way to confusing if you used it in a tactical defense situation.
it does work very well, and is priced really low for what it does. figure out the modes and you'll have a very versatile light, or whatever you drive with it.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

great little card. price is very good, you will not see these in the stores priced anywhere near as low as DX. price runs about $15 to $20 more. easy to use, and works just as well either way, the micro by itself, or with the adapter. i'm using it in a LG vx8500 cell phone that has an mp3 player built in. i have 300 songs on it now and still have over 400mb left. my computor shows it to have 946mb after it was formatted and before i loaded any music on it, so it seems to truly be 1g or at least very close. i haven't put any pictures or video on it yet, so i don't know how well it will handle that type of media. it should do as well as any other 1g sd card. very satisfied with it's performance.

Cons:

only a couple very minor, i wouldn't say cons, but just a note to be aware of. in some of my other devices, (i tested it in all my stuff to see how well it fit), the adapter was a little tight and slow to pop out. maybe after some use it will fit a little better. but that's it. the micro fits perfectly in my lg vx8500's micro sd slot, and in it's adapter. it didn't have a little case like some of them do, but i'm really getting nit picky with that one. the "cons" are unimportant in comparison to the performance.

Other Thoughts:

it's a very handy little gadget to have. i think all sd cards should have the micro inserts. it broadens the range of devices you can use with just one or two cards. i'm not sure how high the micros capacity can go,(8g? 16g? higher?) so that might be the only real advantage the larger sd has over the micro. DX has that covered too.

Bottomline:

great gadget. i love it. i'm still amazed at how all that music fits on that little card, but it does, and it rocks. very cool.
if you have a device that needs a micro sd, and you already have some that use sd cards, this is for you. go ahead and look around, and see how high they are priced elsewhere. then come back here to DX and order a couple.
read the reviews of this product, look at how many 25 star ratings it has. it's a very good product at a rediculous price.

Ownership verified by DX not bad at all

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

not a bad little light. mine said romisen on it istead of saik. so you know the build quality is great. nice fit and finish. good battery life, about an hour and a half before it starts to dim. running the older p2 gives it a slighty longer run time. didn't notice it getting hot, except when i used a nmh rechargeable. even then it just got warm.
very slender design and smooth finish make it a good one for the pocket.i believe it has the same interals as the rc-g2, but with the smaller reflector, it doesn't have the throw. but still very good. reverse clicker feels pretty strong, and is not glued in. it can be swapped out, or serviced. on one of mine the switch assembly itself comes apart, unscrews, allowing the replacement of the switch with some of the ones sold here on DX.

Cons:

none major. body wall seems to be a little thin, but still seems to be durable. although the switch is strong, a forward clicker would be nice. i've gotten used to romisens having forward clickers, maybe they'll change this one soon.

Other Thoughts:

nice for edc. good for gifts to get others into flashlights too. (sometimes they show interest, most of the time they don't). good light to introduce you to the "newer" cree style led's. if you don't own a cree by now this is a ggod place to start. they just get brighter and brighter after this one.

Bottomline:

good work horse of a light. bright enough to do most tasks, inexpensive enough to buy several and place them around the house, barn, garage, and car. good little light.

Pros:

this was the second light i bought from Dx back in feb of 08. i couldn't believe the price.
it has a very nice blue anodized finish. the build quality is pretty good, all the threads felt good and the body feels solid. the switch is a decent reverse clicky that feels sturdy.
it's easy to use, push the button.
runs on one aa. small enough to be an edc light.
i think it has a runtime of something like 8 years... i don't really know, but it runs quite a while on one battery.

Cons:

no where near 5 watts. not even 1/2 a watt. the keychain lanyard is the first thing to go, it isn't very strong. it has a quick release buckle on it that can comes apart pretty easily. i lost mine one day because the buckle came undone. (i guess that's my clumbsy ass fault, but i found it later)
it can be swapped out easily with another lanyard.(duh)
the "pill" is glued into the head/bezel making it a real pain to get apart. it looks like a good host for a mod if you can get it apart. the switch feels strong, but it's just pressed in the tail section. the switch is not threaded, but the tail section is threaded all the way.
it's just not very bright at all.
i don't know why the factory put such nice anodizing on a decently designed light body, then filled it full of junk parts.

Other Thoughts:

with the "cons" in consideration, this is only a $3-$4 light. you get exactly what you paid for. it's not very bright, but it does light up.
it would make a great modded light once you get it apart, (with out destroying it).
that electric blue color is just so cool looking. the manufacturers need to put that finish on some of the more expesive, better performing lights.

Bottomline:

they're ...ok.. if you don't need a real bright light. the price is rediculously cheap, so buy a bunch if you buy any. even with it's low performance people still want them 'cause they look so cool.
make good gifts for "normal people that aren't flashlight crazy" !!!
no offense intended, i am "flashlight crazy" and still like this light because it's BLUE !!!!.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

good price on a well driven cree p4.
very bright for a single 123 battery, but i'm used to buying lights that run on aa/aaa batteries, so this one should be brighter. it has good throw with a larger hotspot than some of the other small lights i own from DX.
it's easy to use, just twist it 'til it comes on. no modes, just on/off.
of coarse the build quality of this light is excellent. if you own any Romisen lights, then you know you can expect the same quality in this one too.
the runtime on a primary 123 is about 90 minutes. it gets pretty warm around 5 min, but not hot. i left it on for 45 min and it onlt got a little warmer, but again, never hot. i rareley have one on for more than 5 or 10 min at a time, unless it's an extreme emergancy, so getting a little warm is not a big deal.
it means,to me, that it has pretty good current management and heat sinking.
it seams to be well sealed, o-rings throughout (there's only 3). i know it is dunkable when screwed down and turned on, as long as the tail is tight too. i've read that some tailcaps are glued in. mine wasn't. i wouldn't submerge it when it's unscrewed in the off position if you can avoid it.
it has a removeable pocket clip that makes it very easy to clip to the top of your shirt or pants pocket, to keep it from floppin' around.

Cons:

there is no cons with this light's performance or build.
it's a great light that performs very well.
it is a little chubby in your pocket, but easy to get used to.
sometimes it can be a little tough to turn on/off with one hand. (gotta be smarter than the light i guess)

Other Thoughts:

it's a great little chubby light. but it runs on 123's. a lot of people love them, and use them faithfuly. i personally don't like them. either type, primary or rechargeable. they do have a lot of energy in a small package, and a long shelflife, but they are pretty expensive where i live, average $8us each. sometimes i can't find them at all, and i'm not always somewhere that i can recharge the rcr123's.
i converted mine to run on 2 aaa's. the tail on this light unscrews to remove the pocket clip. i found a aaa light body i had laying around.(got it at w-mart for $1 i think). the threads from the aaa body fit perfect in the rc-c3 tail threads. now it runs on 2 aaa's.
runtime is a little over 2 hrs. i've found aa/aaa's in places where they never heard of a cr123 lithium battery.
also i recieved this light by accident. it was in the wrong box. i decided to keep it, instead of returning it to DX for exchange. value was the same as what i ordered so no loss. i am confident, and satisfied with DX's service and response to the issue.
i have also started to like this stubby little thing. it's pretty bright.

Bottomline:

it's a great little light, that's very simple and well built. Romisen/Cree quality, with DX's pricing and service.
it's well worth it. order one or two.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

great price, and you get 2 for $3 u.s.
decent quality stainless steel.
smaller than a credit card.
almost 2mm thick, you can't bend it unless you're a 1200 pound grizzly bear.
knife edge is suprizingly sharp, keep it in the little pouch to carry in your wallet, or it WILL eat your wallet. the pouch is a simple vinyl one, but good enough to keep that shark in your pocket from eating your britches.
the saw works pretty good too. you can cut 1/2 way through a branch, that was to thick to brake over your knee, to make it easier to snap it.
the bottle & can openers work great.
the screwdriver "blade" will fit some phillips head screws, as well as most slotted screws.
the wrenches work good as long as there is clearence around the nut/bolt to turn the tool.
i have no idea how to use the "direction ancillary indication"(compass). BUT it makes a good tool to bend small diameter mild steel tubing such as brake lines and fuel lines.
the "butterfly wrench" is suppossed to be used on wing nuts, but i found it to be better at bending thin metal, or breaking things off in it.
cool gadget to have.

Cons:

cons..... (remember this is $3 for 2 of these)
the mm ruler is off a little bit, but close enough for non critical work.
could have an inches ruler on the other side for us here in the States. we use both mm and inches (still).
directional thing is useless to me except for bending stuff.
this one is a pro-con: that damn knife edge will suprise you. it's sharp. i bleed all over the thing every time i use it. (but it does it's job quite well)
last con is the worst one.... EVERYBODY you know will want one.

Other Thoughts:

cool tool. even if you use it to open beer bottles only, it's great.. plus it has extra tools for... whatever.
i've tried to use all the tools on it and succeeded with most.

Bottomline:

buy several of these. remember one order is two tools, .... they come in pairs. you'll need the multiples to shut up your freinds and family.
just the kind of cool thing i've come to expect from DX.

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar

Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

another great priced, and well built, romisen product. this is a very solid, useful light, great for every day carry. fit and finish are excelent. the newer ones have p-4's. it puts out alot of light for 1 aa batt. batt life is pretty good. a little over an hour at full on, with a few hours of useable light. the lanyard is sturdy and should fit most hands and wrists,(unless you're 8ft tall & 500lbs). has a nice forward clicker. it's basically a scaled down rc-g2. if you like that light, you should like this one.

Cons:

none. for a aa light it's great. i compared this to the rc-g2 to give you an idea of the quality of this light. it has a better cree than the rc-g2 but it does not have the throw. that is due to the size of the reflecter on the g2. the h3 is close, but not quite as bright. it's also alot smaller too.

Other Thoughts:

it's another great light from romisen.(i'm almost getting tired of saying that, but that's a real good thing to complain about). it shares the head and inner guts with a 1 aaa light (sku#12066) if you want a smaller light than this, but runtime suffers a little.

Bottomline:

if you want a good quality, very well made light, for a great, almost unbelieveable price, buy a couple of these. buy any of the romisen lights. i don't see how you could go wrong.
these aa and aaa lights that romisen builds are perfect for those of us that want a bright quality light, that runs on very, very affordable, and readily availeable, batteries.

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

what can i say that ain't already been said about this light? it has put a couple new words into my vocabulary, and it's Romisen, and CREE. it is the first light i've owned with a Cree. the build quality of the rc-g2 is amazing, at any price, but these are $11.50!!! & free shipping!!!!! (holy crap)
it has a wicked hotspot that i've estimated it throwin'(brightly) about 250ft. it's a 180ft from my house to the edge of the woods, & the rc-g2 will blast well past the timber line from my house. i've not had it get hot or even warm yet. i love the tactical forward clicker switch. it is well sealed. dispite it's funny apearance, it grips pretty good in the hand. very solid feeling light. (i still can't believe the price.) you can completely disassemble this light. it is totally repairible if a problem pops up, but i don't think it will. it's easy to use too...push the button!!
it has a good bit of useful spill around the hotspot. but in my experience so far, it's better suited for outside. it's almost to bright for indoor use. that is a big PRO.
excellent light to use as a tactical light with a ccw permit. (concealed carry (of a) weapon permit... USA) it goes great with a GUN.
......battery life is ..ok. it runs so good you almost forget about the batt. about an hour if ran full time, but you can blink it for days.

Cons:

..............uh. well a couple of the ones i got had some sharp edges on the tail end of the body. the threads are tight, but a sharp edge was left by the cnc machine. sharp enough to possibly cut you if you ain't careful a few hits with some sand paper (600 grit), cleans it up nice.
i DON'T like the orange clicker cover. i know where the button is, i don't need an orange beacon to tell me where it is. i swapped in some black ones i got from DX(5742, & trim the nub for a perfect fit).
a little to bulky for the britches pocket, but ok for a coat/jacket.

Other Thoughts:

i haven't gave any of mine away yet. i don't know anyone that would really appriceate the simple beauty of this light. i think i will give(or sell) lesser lights to weed out the dumb.
also.. i've used fully charged 2000mAh NI-MH rechargeables...... not a big fan of them for this light. the capacity is good, but the voltage is just a tick lower, and that makes the beam a gnat's wisker dimmer.
rc-g2's(mine) seem to like a little higher voltage. i use energizer e2 lithium aa's. out of the pack they run around 1.7v. but i think, and have heard, that 14500 3.6v's will kill it. i'm not gonna try, 'cause i like the light the way it is.

Bottomline:

you want a no bullsh!# light.. get one, or two. when you get the 1st one, you'll want more than one or two. get 'em while they got 'em !!!!
DX does a great job of selling high quality, "never seen before" products for really, really good prices..... with FREE shipping. you just cain't beat it.

Pros:

WOW. this is a great led... awesome. it makes my old luxeon look like a candle, and i really love(d) those luxeons, but the ssc blows it away. i installed one in my favorite carry light, a coast digi tac aa, that i've carried for 4 or 5 years. it is an entirely differant light now. its driven at about 3.2 to 3.5 volts using an energizer e2 lithium aa. i haven't noticed it getting hot or even warm yet and i've played with it non stop since i put it in. battery life seems to be very good so far. i check the voltage of the batt every now and then, and i've noticed very little drop considering the amount i've used it. it's a very bright crisp clean white light. it throws like daylight up to about 100feet in my light, it has a culminating lense so it just dumps a bunch of light without a tight focused hotspot. so i'm sure this thing really rocks in a "regular" light with a reflector and lense. i ordered more.

Cons:

i don't see any real bad ones. if you can do some basic soldering it's easy. you do have to isolate the slug because it is live.(+) the dome is soft but not gummy or sticky.

Other Thoughts:

it's a great upgrade for any light with an older luxeon 1, 2, or 3. if you have 2 of the same light, mod one with this ssc and compare. i was totally amazed. i ordered more and will be chompin' at the bit until i get them. (that means i can't wait)

Bottomline:

get some. they're awesome.

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstarstar

Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros:

very bright for aaa, it's a cree p4!!
awesome machining, tight threads, great finish, it's more of a gun metal light blue color than the blue seen here, it looks better than the picture shows. good forward clicker (momentary blink). CHEAP easy to find batteries. decent lanyard. slightly warm white color, (no yellows or pea green), with a good hotspot. trows pretty far for aaa, useful at about 100 to 150ft, but can light up trees and such up to 200ft. great for the pocket.

Cons:

nothing bad. no o-ring in front of lense, but machining is so good the lense fits very tight to the bezel and seems to seal pretty good... mine doesn't leak,(i guess that one is a pro). only other con could be the aaa. probably about 30 to 40 min max at full power. when battery voltage drops below around .7 of a volt it won't turn on. it will continue to run down past that point if it is already on, it just won't start up.

Other Thoughts:

the cons are minor. it's a good little light. price is good, considering the quality. so far all the the romisen lights i've bought have been flawless.
if you can find energizer lithiums in triple a, the non rechargable type, should increase run time and brightness. i run them in other lights and they do great. (i'm not sure they make them in aaa)

Bottomline:

it is a quality light at a crazy price. you will not find this quality at this price anywhere. i'm gonna buy some more from DX.
