Usefulness: starstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros:

Regulated 1A output from 3xD sized alkaline cells in my MAGLite. Current draw from the batteries was approx 900-1000mA.

Cons:

Only supports up to 4.5V. Would be great to have a circuit that output 1A and could take a supply of 9V or greater.

Other Thoughts:

Bridging the jumpers to enable the 2nd and 3rd AMC7135 components is a delicate job if you only have a standard soldering iron.

Bottomline:

Does the job quite well.

Ownership verified by DX Decent output with a yellow/green corona

Involvement: Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership: more than 1 month

Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros:

Similar profile to Luxeons so should easily swap into flashlights that have reflectors suited to luxeons.

Cons:

Some may not like the greenish yellowish corona surrounding the spot. This comes from the reflection of light from part of the yellow die. Using a suitable reflector should minimise this.

Other Thoughts:

Using this in the Elly will require raising the reflector (moving it away) from the led to achieve the best spot, however this means that some of the output is lost inside the head of the Elly. Better to use this led to mod a host that originally had a luxeon led.

Bottomline:

Cheap, bright and depending on your preference for tints could be just the deal.

Ownership verified by DX cheap but also cheap build..

Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstar
Build Quality: starstar

Overall Rating: starstarstar

Pros:

Takes 18650 battery.
Cheap.

Cons:

Only one o-ring on the tailcap... head did not have o-ring at all and the lens is not waterproof or water resistant.

Other Thoughts:

This light will work with a 18650 battery. The led that came with mine did not have issues with this battery and did not even heat up. The output with this generic led and 18650 battery was on par with the modded Ellys (not direct drive 14500 Ellys).

My biggest gripe with this light is that the lens was not mounted properly and was actually lobsided. This allowed the reflector to move around inside the head which was annoying. And when I tried to mount the lens properly it came off and I couldn't put it back on without scratching it.

Bottomline:

cheap build, if you're lucky to get one with a properly mounted lens and reflector then it's a good light.
