So I just got this pen, but the thing can never record for very long. I admittedly did not charge it too long when I first got it, so its record times of about 10 min. or so weren't too bad. But now, after charging for about 6 or 7 hours, it still does not record for very long. After about 10 min or so (isn't very consistent), it automatically shuts off. I can turn it back on again, but the recording will only last about 10-20 seconds before shutting itself off again.
Is this a malfunction with the pen, or do I simply need to charge it more? Any solutions? Why would it just automatically shut itself off?

How are you recharging the pen? You should be recharging through your USB port. For some reason I could never get mine to fully charge with the enclosed charger. I still onlt get about 30 mins on a full charge.

I've used both chargers. I've used the enclosed wall charger for about 5-6 hours (where the orange light was still blinking when I removed it) and that seemed to do absolutely nothing. Lasted about 2 min with that charge. I'm doing more experiments with the USB port on my laptop. I plugged it in here for a couple minutes just a bit ago and got a 6 min recording time, which is pretty high for recent standards.
Last night, I left my pen in the USB port of my laptop, but the orange light stopped blinking after about a half hour ago. I'm not sure why. I thought the solid orange light symbolized a full charge, but it still only lasted about 10-15 min when I wanted to use it. Perhaps "safely removing" the drive or putting the computer to sleep is interfering with the charge somehow? Anyway, I'll leave the pen in the USB port overnight without putting the computer to sleep and see what happens.
Is there a possibility this could be a firmware issue? And yes, I have reset the pen numerous times.

I would guess it has a faulty battery.

How long does the pen normally take to charge?
I left the pen charging overnight and came back to find the solid orange light. I did a test run and the thing only lasted 50 minutes before shutting off. Is this normal?
I then left it charging for 2.5 hours, came back to find the solid orange light again, and it lasted 40 minutes. What's the deal? Will DX actually send me another pen for this?

I noticed mine also stops around 40-45 minutes. I think the reason is if you look at your drive space left it will be almost full. At least mine is. If you got one of the new batch pens they have a 640x 480 resolution therefore using about double the drive space of the older ones.

The thing should hold about 2GB though. One 40-50 min file is never any more than 1GB, and I've always kept my drive cleared. It must be that the battery only allows for that much charge, which is lame because I read that it lasted for hours.

The tiny LiPo cells used in these pens are very unreliable and can easily get damaged, which will reduce the maximum charge of the cell.

Few days ago, I bought a spypen...with the same problem than WCfire.
Have you resolved your problem? My longer recording is about 15 min. The seller says spypen works correctly.
Could be a battery problem? Can you help me? What can I do?
Thanks.

I haven't exactly resolved the problem yet. Like I said in a previous post, leaving the pen plugged into my laptop (had to keep it on) overnight extended recording time to around 40-50 min. Better than 10 min, but still nowhere near the 2 hours advertised and still very unsatisfactory.
