Subject: Spy Pen - Records for only 10 seconds

I have a 4gb spy pen that initially recorded for up to 25 minutes or so.

Now, the pen will only record for 10 seconds. The lights work okay. When
you click on the power button.. the light turns yellow, then shortly
after it turns to blue and proceeds to record from 8-10 seconds and
then the blue light goes off and the unit shuts down. I initially
thought this may be a battery issue, but I can continue to hit the
power button and record many more times but only for 10 seconds each.

I tried resetting the unit, charging via an outlet and USB, and
even replacing the system files but I encounter the same problem.

My bin files are:

AkResData.bin (7,641 KB)
AmuseFont.bin (1,342 KB)
AmuseLogo.bin (150 KB)
cxpmp3225app.bin (2,341 KB)
DynamicFont3.bin (2,060 KB)
LangCodepage.bin (466 KB)
WTPENPDA.bin (777 KB)

Any ideas how to resolve this problem? Could my bin files be corrupt?

Okay.. after charging it with a USB on a different computer for 5
hours, I was able to record for 6 minutes. It's getting better..
up from 10 seconds to 6 minutes. Could it be that I just need to
let it charge for 24 hours to try and fill up the battery,
so that maybe it will hold a charge better afterwards?

I had the same problem; would only charge for 10 seconds at a time. I'm not sure if it's a battery or a software thing, but mine now records about 50 min per charge.

Try letting it charge for a long time. Then try to run it, see if it'll go for more than 10 seconds. If it doesn't, try the reformat procedure stated in the forums here. Basically you hold down the power button, then plug it into USB. Keep holding the power button till the drive shows up in explorer.

You should have 3 drives of different sizes. Copy the files off a drive, format it (quickformat is ok, make sure to do FAT or FAT32, depending on what it was) and then copy the files back. Do that for all 3 drives. Then do "safely remove USB device" in windows and turn it off then on again. That may fix it. It definitely fixes the yellow-light-of-doom problem.

At any rate, don't give up. I had the same problem, and now I don't.
