I´ve bought this because was needing more space on my laptop wich have a 60gb HD so I also bought a hitachi 160gb sata.. but i liked so much this enclosure that i´ve decided put the 160gb hdd on it.

Detailed Review HDD Player 2,5" SATA

Pro:

-plays divx very well, also mp3, mp4 (from my Nokia N95), pictures have a good quality, and also plays more formats claimed by the manufacturer that i haven´t tested yet.
-works very well as a portable HD, powered just from the USB port, and comes with double USB conector cable for use to power the device if a single port can´t supply it.
-very fast access compared with the others DVD multimedia players I´ve seen.
-supports multiple partitions (NTFS and FAT32) and shows it like separate disks when you power it on.
-The remote is very usefull and its size is very good (not too small but not too large).

Cons
-can´t show complete file names, just the firs 18 characters.
-the OTG (on the go) function is slow.
-get VERY HOT when in operation, I reccomend to use it upside down when you using it as a multimedia player, this way the aluminum case can better dissipate the heat.
- The subtitles are kinda small, and have some problems that I´ll detail below.

Box:

The two partition I´ve created. One is fat32 for MP3 because my car audio player can´t read NTFS, and other is NTFS for movies.

The functions it support are these, but I in particular use only "file", this way the player do not filter the types of files before show (what could be slow sometimes)

img src: http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/8315/05functionsyy4.jpg

This is the file explorer, with a preview square that plays the movie or picture when you keep it selected (can be annoying sometimes)

These are the subtitles issues:
1) it shows broken words, and sometimes two lines in one (the sentence should be "que não passe da conta")

img src: http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/4637/08subtitlesvp7.jpg

2) don´t know why sometimes it shows some carachters and sometimes not (the sentence should be "quatro milhões de dólares)

This is the Setup menu. There is an option for enabling a SPDIF output (with is not describled as a fature on the product manual neither on the site).I didn´t tested it yet, but I suppose that it works. I´ll test it later to discover what is the output pin to SPDIF coaxial connector, if really there is one.

Bottomline:

Besides the problems with heat and subtitles, it worthed A LOT because something like this here in Brasil will cost R$180 (something like U$110). Now I have a very portable multimedia player and a mass storage to use on my desktop and laptop. I´m trying to improve my english to a level that the subtitles would be not neccessary and not a problem anymore.

Note: Unfortunatelly my car´s audio player USB input couldn´t supply the current for this device, so don´t have tested it, but I think it should work. It´s a Pioneer 6900UB. I´ll have to buy a 12v adaptor to use it.

matrix-neo:

the "?" files are the subtitles (wich should be named as same as the avi file to work) but I don´t know why the player shows it as an unknown file.

PS.: I´ll post part of this as a Review to earn some points, but I posted the pictures and detailed review here because DX never published any pictures that I´ve sent(and never gave me the points for image upload).
I hope it could be usefull to other users, since DX don´t want to help users that have questions and want to see a real picture of the product before buy. They are really loosing A LOT of seels doing this.

I have this one too, using a 250 GB Samsung HDD.

Some more remarks:

* although it does support NTSC file system, you'll only be able to delete/move/rename/copy files on FAT32
* some strange issues with depth of folders and number of files included
* couldn't find the manufactor's homepage for updates yet :-(
* ships with US plug: using it elsewhere in the world you'll either have to use some flimsy plug-adaptor or an external third-party power supply

All in all a very good buy and working well once you've figured out the file issues.

The subtitle problem could be bad SRT Subtitles which where custom made and the chars aren't in the SRT

Israel thanks! I had the same idea to put it to play on my car, but right now I have no money to buy a LCD screen. I´m also thinking about some way to cool it down while playing.. maybe some mod with a fan.
Btw, this is probably the manufacturer:

http://www.sqichina.com/product_en.asp?id=391
I sent an e-mail for then yesterday asking about the firmware and received an automatically answer but I think someday they´ll answer...

Dylan, in all movies I´ve played on it there is a problem with the subtitles, and the same subs worked perfectly playing on my computer.

ps.: sou brasileiro e falo portugues tambem.
